Frank Beckmann is an American talk radio personality who presently works for WJR in Detroit, Michigan. From 1981 through 2013, he was the radio play-by-play announcer for University of Michigan football. In May 2012, Northwood University bestowed upon Beckmann the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws.
Beckmann has presented “The Frank Beckmann Show” on WJR daily from 9:00 a.m. to Noon for the past 18 years and is a sports broadcasting icon. On Friday, March 26, 2021, his final program will air.

From 1981 until 2013, Beckmann was the radio play-by-play announcer for University of Michigan football, and since 2004, he has presented a regular weekday discussion program on WJR in Detroit. Beckmann, who began his sportscasting career in 1969, has previously worked as a broadcaster for the Detroit Lions (1979-1988) and Detroit Tigers (1995-2003), as well as serving as the sports director for WJR for numerous years. In the early 1980s, he presented Sportswrap on WJR, which was one of the first all-sports talk shows in the country.
The Associated Press and United Press International have named him “Top Michigan Sportscaster,” and the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association has named him “Michigan Sportscaster of the Year.”
Beckmann received the Ty Tyson Award for Excellence in Sports Broadcasting from the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association in a special halftime press box ceremony at the University of Michigan football stadium. For his contributions to sports broadcasting, he was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.
On January 13, 2021, Beckmann announced to his fans that he will retire on March 26, 2021.
