In 1900, Horace and John Dodge established the Dodge Brothers Company in Detroit, immediately finding work manufacturing precision engine and chassis components for the city’s rising number of automotive companies. The established Olds Motor Vehicle Company and the upstart Ford Motor Company were two of the most important customers. The Dodge brothers were chosen by Henry Ford to furnish a wide range of components for his original automobile.

John and Horace Dodge founded the Dodge Brothers Motor Company in 1913, and by 1914, they had designed and unveiled their first car, the four-cylinder Dodge Model 30/35 touring automobile.  It was marketed as a little more premium rival to the ubiquitous Ford Model T, and it pioneered or made standard many characteristics that are now considered standard, such as all-steel body construction (as the vast majority of automobiles are).

In May, the 6th Infantry got information that Julio Cárdenas, one of Villa’s most trusted subordinates, had been seen. In three Dodge Model 30 touring vehicles, Lt. George S. Patton led ten soldiers and two civilian escorts to perform America’s first motorised military raid at a ranch house in San Miguelito, Sonora. During the subsequent gunfight, the party murdered three guys, one of whom was a member of the party.

In 1920, Dodge Brothers automobiles remained in second place in American sales. In the same year, however, tragedy struck as John Dodge succumbed to pneumonia in January.  In December of the same year, his brother Horace died of cirrhosis (reportedly out of grief at the loss of his brother, to whom he was very close). The Dodge Brothers Company slipped into thrall after the deaths of both founders.
