JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A., also known as Chase Bank or simply Chase, is an American national bank with headquarters in Manhattan, New York City. It is the consumer and commercial banking subsidiary of JPMorgan Chase, a multinational banking and financial services holding company based in the United States. Until it merged with J.P. Morgan & Co. in 2000, the bank was known as Chase Manhattan Bank.
The Bank of the Manhattan Company is the main article. Chase can trace its roots back to Aaron Burr’s creation of The Manhattan Company in a residence at 40 Wall Street on September 1, 1799 Following a yellow fever epidemic in 1798, during which itinerant vendors on street corners peddled coffins, Aaron Burr founded the Manhattan Company with the ostensible goal of delivering clean water to the area.
John Thompson founded Chase National Bank in 1877. It was named after Salmon P. Chase, a prominent United States Treasury Secretary and Chief Justice, despite the fact that Chase had no relation to the bank. Through the Chase Securities Corporation, the Chase National Bank bought a number of smaller banks in the 1920s. It bought Mechanics and Metals National Ban in 1926, for example.

The Chase Manhattan Bank was formed in 1955 when Chase National Bank and The Manhattan Company amalgamated to become the Chase Manhattan Bank. Because Chase was a much bigger bank, it was originally planned for Chase to buy the “Bank of Manhattan,” as it was known, but it turned out that Burr’s original charter for the Manhattan Company had not only included a clause allowing it to start a bank with surplus funds, but another requiring unabridged ownership of the company.
Chemical Bank of New York and Chase Manhattan Bank announced plans to merge in August 1995. In August of 1996, the transaction was completed. Manufacturers Hanover Corporation in 1991 and Texas Commerce Bank in 1987 were among Chemical’s past acquisitions. Despite the fact that Chemical was the sole survivor, the merged business kept the Chase name because it was not only more well-known.

Chase Student Loans, formerly known as Chase Education Finance, were built on the foundation of CFS.
