Only $1.00 was renamed Dollar Tree Stores in 1993 to address the possibility of a multi-price-point approach in the future, and a portion of the company’s shares was sold to SKM Partners, a private equity group. Brock and the other Dollar Tree co-founders got the idea for the company from a failed business called Everything’s A Dollar in the 1990s.

Dollar Tree bought Philadelphia-based Dollar Express in 2000 and developed a new distribution center in Stockton, California. Two new distribution hubs were opened in Savannah, Georgia, and Briar Creek, Pennsylvania, in 2001. Dollar Tree purchased Greenbacks, Inc. of Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2003 and constructed a new distribution center in Marietta, Oklahoma. Dollar T was born on March 6, 1995.

In 2010, the company bought 86 Canadian Dollar Giant stores centered in Vancouver, British Columbia, and established its 4,000th chain location.
