Isaac has been singing and playing the guitar since he was twelve years old. Multiple media publications, most notably Rolling Stone magazine, have called him a sex symbol and “the Internet’s Boyfriend,” though he has expressed scepticism about the moniker.

Oscar Isaac has arrived in Venice for the world premieres of three new projects: Paul Schrader’s “The Card Counter,” Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune,” and a selection of episodes from his HBO limited series “Scenes from a Marriage.” After his CGI-heavy spell as Poe Dameron in the “Star Wars” saga, Isaac revealed during the press conference for “The Card Counter” (via Deadline) that he sorely desired to perform in a character study. Schrader’s suspense thriller came on time. After witnessing “First Reformed,” Isaac personally emailed Schrader to express his desire to collaborate. Schrader contacted me a year later to offer “The Card Counter.”

Isaac told the press in Venice, “I’ve been in green screen space land for quite a few years and I was itching to do a character study.”Isaac’s adventure to space isn’t limited to “Star Wars,” as Villeneuve’s “Dune” is another galaxy-spanning epic in which Isaac plays a pivotal role. Isaac’s relationship with CGI and green screens isn’t going away anytime soon, since he’s presently filming the Marvel Cinematic Universe television series “Moon Knight.” In any case, “The Card Counter” served as a palate cleanser for the actor in between space pictures and Marvel.
Isaac addressed the press about his preparation for “The Card Counter,” saying, “In prep, I donned a mask.” I returned to Juilliard’s theatre school and worked with one of my favourite professors, who specialises in body work. We worked in a studio for three days, and I wore a neutral mask.”

Isaac has been open about his experiences working on three “Star Wars” films for a long time. While he “enjoyed the challenge of those films and working with a very broad group of wonderful artists and performers,” the actor told Deadline last summer that appearing in films like “Star Wars” is “not exactly what I set out to do.”

Isaac, who has collaborated with directors such as Alex Garland, J.C. Chandor, Julian Schnabel, and the Coen Brothers, said, “What I set out to accomplish was to produce homemade pictures and to work with individuals that inspire me.” “Paul films, the things he’s done, they’re in my DNA. Obviously, I’m not alone. Those are the films that made every actor of a specific generation who they are, and that is absolutely true in my case. It feels like a personal turning point for me, and it has nothing to do with the final result in my opinion. It’s the method of accomplishing it.”

Isaac made headlines at the time when he said he’d return to “Star Wars” if he “needed another house or something.”“The Card Counter,” which had its world debut in Venice, will be released in US theatres on September 10 by Focus Features.
