Petri Hawkins-Byrd, commonly known as Byrd, is an American television personality who was born Petri Adonis Byrd on November 29, 1957 in Brooklyn, New York. He is most recognised for his role as bailiff on the Nielsen top-rated courtroom television show Judge Judy for the entire series run (25 seasons). He has the record for the longest court show bailiff on television thanks to his appearance on Judge Judy.

Byrd was born in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn. He attended Hostos Community College in The Bronx after graduating from Eastern District High School.

In 1986, he was assigned to the Manhattan Family Court division. Byrd met Judge Judy Sheindlin, the Supervising Family Court Judge for Manhattan, while serving in this capacity. From 1986 until 1989, Byrd worked as a courtroom officer in the Manhattan family court system, rotating between a variety of judges, one of them was Sheindlin.  When asked about his experiences serving as Sheindlin’s bailiff in the Manhattan family court system, Byrd said, “In her courtroom, I was never bored. Her direct approach didn’t always sit well with the litigants, and there were moments when she was relieved to see me.”

Hawkins-Byrd graduated from John Jay College with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 1989. In 1990, Byrd and his family relocated to San Mateo, California, so that he could accept a position as a Special Deputy United States Marshall.Byrd accepted a job offer as a student counsellor at Monta Vista High School in Santa Clara, California, three years later.

In a Liz Smith piece in 1995, Byrd read about Sheindlin’s new book, Don’t Pee on My Leg and Tell Me It’s Raining, as well as her then-upcoming television court show. “If you ever need a bailiff, my uniform still fits,” he wrote in a congratulatory letter to Sheindlin. After noticing a lack of chemistry between her and the test actor, she called Byrd at his house and offered him the job of bailiff in her courtroom series, which he gladly accepted.Byrd was the longest-serving television bailiff in history, serving as the bailiff for the Judge Judy programme for the entire 25-year run (1996-2021).

handing the case files to Sheindlin), delivering materials between the judge and the litigants, dismissing the parties, and escorting them out once the case was over.

Throughout the show’s 25-year run, Byrd was called upon to take a larger role on several occasions. Sheindlin routinely requested Byrd’s assistance in looking up vehicle estimates from the Kelley Blue Book so that she could give the parties the correct judgement amount. Byrd was also entrusted with resolving or averting future conflicts between the plaintiff(s) and the defendant (s). Byrd’s signature pet peeve was having to stop petitioners from delivering evidence to Shiendlin directly, despite the fact that these litigants were unaware of the court show’s routine of handing evidence to the bailiff to convey over to the judge. Byrd also made contact with the litigants’ parole officials and administered drug testing.

Despite his limited speaking role, Byrd frequently provided Sheindlin with humorously matter-of-fact, frank, and straightforward nonverbal reactions or exclamations, usually when he was addressed by Sheindlin. Sheindlin’s further reinforcement—an extra amount of compulsion by Sheindlin for litigants she couldn’t tame on her own—usually came in the form of his severe and scary interjections for brasher litigants. Sheindlin frequently asked Byrd to accompany defendants out of the courtroom who were acting in ways she didn’t approve of. Byrd has been dubbed “the pit bull’s security dog” by the Los Angeles Times.

Byrd did not hesitate to correct and opine with Sheindlin when he thought she was wrong, as well as supplying her with answers in areas where she struggled, such as mathematics, technology, social media, current fads, and so on.

Sheindlin has said of their on-screen relationship, “We’re like two old married people who have come to an agreement.” I know I can count on him to defend me. We don’t need to speak; he already knows what I’m thinking. People who watch us can tell we have a history, which is crucial.”

Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, Byrd’s responsibilities were considerably decreased during the show’s 25th and final seasons: while he still introduced and closed cases, he no longer delivered evidence back and forth between Sheindlin and the parties, and he no longer talked with Sheindlin. Sheindlin used to get chuckles by randomly focusing attention to Byrd to emphasise her criticisms or debate points prior to season 25. All of this was missing in Season 25 since Sheindlin presided over the proceedings from a location other than the Los Angeles studio set.

Judy Justice, a Judge Judy spin-off streaming court show produced by Amazon Studios, will premiere on IMDb TV on November 1, 2021. The lack of Byrd and the presence of a different bailiff named Kevin Rasco in the first trailer for the new courtroom programme, which was published on September 30, 2021, was met with tremendous outrage and puzzlement from Judge Judy series fans. Byrd’s absence from the new series has been reported without explanation.

Byrd made an appearance on an episode of The Doctors, a medical advice talk programme, in August 2018. Byrd made another guest appearance on The Doctors in December 2019, this time to discuss his progress with diabetes and his overall health.

Byrd appeared as a marriage officiant at Steffy (played by Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and Finn’s (played by Tanner Novlan) wedding on The Bold and the Beautiful on August 5, 2021.Byrd works as an event emcee, guest speaker, charity supporter, and community activist when she is not filming the Judge Judy series. He is on the board of the faith-based youth programme Teen Center USA and is the national chairman of the O.K. Program, which addresses social concerns affecting black boys and young men

BIOGRAPHY:

Judge Judy Sheindlin left her CBS show last year after the distributor decided that 25 years of reruns was enough to sell and continue making a profit off of

have likely demanded more in the negotiations to keep the show going. Instead, she walked away from the project and joined Amazon to stream a fresh version of the concept on IMDBtv (the free streaming network by the Amazon owned Internet Movie Database website).

She confessed she “wasn’t teary” and “didn’t feel all that emotional” at the end of Judge Judy, but added, “I felt happy that I had completed that portion of my journey and done it respectably.” It was the end of the day, the end of the workday. The bathroom looks beautiful since I cleaned it.”
The trailer will elicit an universal response from Judge Judy fans: Where is Byrd??? Petri Hawkins, Judy’s bailiff On the syndicated show Judge Judy, Byrd stood by her side for 25 years, but he will not be joining her on Judy Justice, and no one knows why. Before the show, Byrd was Judy’s bailiff in her courtroom, and he stayed for the whole 25-year run of Judge Judy.

The first thought that came to mind was that he was probably ready to retire? That doesn’t appear to be the case, as Byrd told the Associated Press last year that he would be “proud” to join Judy in her new venture – but no Byrd appears in the teaser for the show. Judy, on the other hand, hails her new bailiff Kevin, a retired Los Angeles probation officer and entrepreneur, as “one of the nicest people she’s ever met.” Most people seemed to like Byrd… Was there any squabble? Drama? Or, more likely, did the show’s budget just not warrant matching his previous wage of $1 million every year? This makes sense, given that the show has hired two more cast members, whose salaries have not been disclosed but are unlikely to be more than $1 million apiece.

Court stenographer Whitney Kumar and law clerk Sarah Rose – who “happens to be my granddaughter,” Judy says in the video – are the two new members flanking the judge on the bench. “Sarah is wired the same way I am,” Judy explains. “She’s a bit of a snob.” That appeals to me.” A new bailiff has been appointed by Judge Judy. There’s a new bailiff in town after 25 years of having Petri Hawkins Byrd by her side.

Judy Justice will premiere on the streaming platform on Monday, Nov. 1 and will feature a new bailiff named Kevin Rasco. Judge Judy reveals the new ensemble of legal assistants who will join her on the show, including Rasco, in a new trailer for the upcoming court show. Judge Judy is also shown in the teaser with two more newcomers: court stenographer Whitney Kumar and law clerk Sarah Rose. At the time, it was unclear why Byrd was not chosen for Judge Judy’s new show. Last year, he told the Chicago Sun-Times that he would be “proud” to appear on Judge Judy’s new show. His friendship with Judge Judy dates back to 1985. In the New York City court system, the two collaborated. He wrote Judge Judy a congratulations letter after learning that she was getting a TV show. He followed up with a joke about being available for employment, and the rest is history. During 12,500 instances, Byrd was on Judge Judy’s side.

Judge Judy expressed her feelings about Byrd in a statement, according to the report: “He is a consummate professional who understands how a courtroom should be handled,” she stated. “I’ve gotten a chance to fulfil a lot of dreams that I probably wouldn’t have gotten the chance to do if it hadn’t been for Judge Judy Sheindlin taking very seriously a funny comment at the end of a letter,” Byrd told the Sun-Times, “I’ve gotten a chance to fulfil a lot of dreams that I probably wouldn’t have gotten the chance to do if it hadn’t been for Judge Judy Sheindlin “It just goes to show that telling God your ideas is a surefire way to make him laugh. ‘You have no idea what you’re about to embark on,’ he’ll say.

But I have faith in God and in the journey, and the experience has been fantastic.” On her giant TV court programme, “Judge Judy,” Judith Sheindlin has been the lone judge, jury, and verbal executioner for the last quarter century. Petri Hawkins Byrd, her trusted bailiff, has stood by her side for over 12,500 cases and recalls a time when he thought she made a mistake. “I expressed my feelings to her. And I recall her looking at me and saying, ‘Really, Byrd?’ ‘Do you honestly believe I made a mistake?’ Byrd remembers Sheindlin’s severe expression. “I felt compelled to inform her that she was missing something.” On the broadcast, Byrd is referred to as Officer Byrd, and he states he doesn’t recall the precise case, but the judge remembers. “She added, ‘My officer claimed there was something you said in your testimony that you brought out.’ And I suppose she changed her mind on that one.”
