Miranda Taylor Cosgrove (born May 14, 1993) is an actress and singer from the United States. She has garnered numerous awards and nominations, including two Young Artist Awards, a Kids’ Choice Award, and two Daytime Emmy Award nominations, and was named the highest-paid child actress in 2012 by Guinness World Records.

Cosgrove began her acting career at the age of seven, appearing in various television commercials before landing the role of Summer Hathaway in Richard Linklater’s School of Rock (2003). She starred as Megan Parker on the television series Drake & Josh (2004–2007) and as Carly Shay in the teen sitcom iCarly (2007–2012) before gaining prominence for her work on Nickelodeon, where she starred as Megan Parker on the television series Drake & Josh (2004–2007) and as Carly Shay in the teen sitcom iCarly (2007–2012). On the Paramount+ revival series iCarly (2021–present), she reprises her role as an adult Carly Shay. Cosgrove also hosts the CBS television show Mission Unstoppable with Miranda Cosgrove (2019–present) and voiced Margo in the animated film series Despicable Me (2010–present).

Cosgrove made her musical debut in 2008 with iCarly, a soundtrack CD for the same-named television series, on which she sings four songs.

The EP’s main song, “Dancing Crazy,” was written by Avril Lavigne and charted at No. 100 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. Cosgrove was born in Los Angeles, California, to Tom Cosgrove, a dry cleaner, and Chris (née Casey), a stay-at-home mom. She claims to be of English, Irish, and French ancestry.

Cosgrove is an only kid who has been homeschooled since the sixth grade.  Throughout her childhood, she struggled with body image issues. Cosgrove aspired to be a veterinarian before becoming an actress.

She was spotted by a talent agent at the age of three while singing and dancing at the Los Angeles restaurant Taste of L.A.  Cosgrove claims she “never really thought of being an actress” until the agent approached her and her mother, and that she “got lucky.”She then modelled for several businesses and appeared in multiple television advertisements for McDonald’s and Mello Yello. She began auditioning for theatre and television jobs at the age of seven. In 2012, Cosgrove enrolled at the University of Southern California. She majored in film at first, but then changed her major to psychology.

She made her cinematic debut in Richard Linklater’s School of Rock in 2003. Summer Hathaway, a young girl with strong drive and discipline, struggles to adjust to her new music teacher’s free-spirited character in the film (Jack Black). School of Rock was a movie office triumph, generating over $130 million worldwide, as well as a critical success, with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 91 percent. David Ansen of Newsweek praised Cosgrove’s performance in the film, calling it “right on.”  She described the scene in which her character attempts to sing as particularly challenging: “I’d been taking singing lessons for almost five years, so singing badly was a new experience for me. It was strange because the director kept saying, ‘Try singing even worse, Miranda.’”

Cosgrove received her first major role in a television series in 2004, when she was cast with Drake Bell and Josh Peck in the Nickelodeon sitcom Drake & Josh. Megan Parker, the title characters’ cheeky younger sister, was played by her in the series. Cosgrove was cast as Munch in Here Comes Peter Cottontail: The Movie, a Cartoon Network film, in 2005. Cosgrove plays a female mouse in the film who is saved from a hawk by Junior and Flutter and then joins them on their trip.  Cosgrove also appeared in two episodes of Lilo & Stitch: The Series as a guest star. She also landed her second significant role in a theatrical picture, in the comedy Yours, Mine & Ours, opposite her Drake & Josh co-star Drake Bell.

The picture had a mediocre box office performance. Yours, Mine & Ours debuted in third place, grossing $17 million in its opening weekend in the United States.  Keeping Up with the Steins, Cosgrove’s third theatrical production, was released in 2006. It earned mostly bad reviews from reviewers and had a terrible box office performance.  She also landed a role in The Wild Stallion, a straight-to-DVD film.

Cosgrove appeared as a guest star in several Nickelodeon shows, the first of which being Zoey 101. Cosgrove later appeared as a guest star on an episode of Unfabulous, with Emma Roberts. Cosgrove appeared in the episode as Cosmina, a sweet young lady. Cosgrove, on the other hand, was already planning to feature in her own sitcom, iCarly, which premiered on September 8, 2007. The fact that viewers can submit their own movies and be included in the show is a unique feature of this show. When it comes to audience engagement, Cosgrove says, “I thought the concept was fantastic when I first heard it. I’d want to send in a video if I were at home watching TV.”
