Bunton released her debut solo album, A Girl Like Me (2001), during the Spice Girls’ sabbatical, which debuted at number four on the UK Albums Chart and was certified gold.
The album produced the number one hit “What Took You So Long?” as well as the top five songs “What I Am” and “Take My Breath Away,” as well as the top 20 single “We’re Not Gonna Sleep Tonight.” “Free Me,” “Maybe,” “I’ll Be There,” and “Crickets Sing for Anamaria” were among the singles from her second studio album, Free Me (2004). Melanie Chisholm, Mel Brown, Geri Halliwell, and Victoria Beckham all responded to an ad in The Stage in 1994. Around 400 ladies responded to the ad and visited the Dance Works studios. Halliwell, Chisholm, Beckham (née Adams), and Brown were the founding members of the group, along with Michelle Stephenson, who was replaced by Abigail Kis, then Bunton, due to her lack of dedication. The lack of a contract made the group feel uneasy, and they were irritated by the direction in which Heart Management was leading them.
The trio began touring management firms in October 1994, armed with a repertoire of demos and dance routines. They persuaded Bob Herbert to arrange a showcase performance for the group in December 1994 at the Nomis Studios in Shepherd’s Bush in front of industry writers, producers, and A&R men, to which they received a “overwhelmingly favourable” response. The Herberts soon set about developing a binding contract for the group due to the high level of interest. Encouraged by the positive response they received during the Nomis presentation, all five members postponed signing contracts, citing legal counsel from Adams’ father, Anthony Adams, among others. The group broke ways with Heart Management in March 1995, frustrated by their management’s refusal to listen to its ideals and ideas.

The album was Bunton’s first to fail to crack the top ten in the UK, peaking at number 65 on the albums chart. The album’s second single, “All I Need to Know,” was released on February 12, 2007, in time for Valentine’s Day.
