Sergio Giavanni Kitchens, better known by his stage name Gunna, is an American rapper who was born on June 14, 1993. He is signed to YSL Records, as well as 300 Entertainment and Atlantic Records, and is most known for his collaborations with Lil Baby and Young Thug. On February 22, 2019, he released his debut studio album, Drip or Drown 2, and on May 22, 2020, he released his second studio album, Wunna, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.

Kitchens was born in the Georgia town of College Park. His mother reared him, and he has four older brothers.  He began making music when he was fifteen years old. He grew up listening to artists such as Cam’ron, Chingy, and Outkast. Kitchens went to Langston Hughes High School and North Springs Charter School of Arts and Sciences. Under the moniker Yung Gunna, Gunna released the mixtape Hard Body in 2013.

Feature Keith “King” Troup, a close friend and community member who died in December 2015, introduced Gunna to American rapper Young Thug. Thug’s single “Floyd Mayweather” off his commercial mixtape, Jeffery, featured him alongside American rappers Travis Scott and Gucci Mane.

Drip Season, Gunna’s debut mixtape, was released on October 14, 2016 via YSL Records. Young Thug, Lil Duke, and Nechie were among the YSL members who performed. On May 11, 2017, he released the mixtape Drip Season 2. Young Thug, Playboi Carti, and Offset were among the many Atlanta and YSL musicians who performed. “YSL,” featuring American rapper Playboi Carti, appeared on a “Grand Theft Auto” radio station, according to the mixtape.  On November 30, 2017, he released Drip or Drown, his first extended play, which was fully produced by his record producer and close buddy Wheezy, with a single guest appearance from Young Thug.

On February 2, 2018, he released Drip Season 3, a commercial mixtape. Hoodrich Pablo Juan, Lil Durk, Nav, Metro Boomin, and Lil Yachty made prominent guest appearances, while the deluxe edition had additional appearances from Lil Uzi Vert, Young Jordan, Young Thug, and Lil Baby. The normal and deluxe editions were launched at the same time.

Gunna released “Sold Out Dates,” a single with American rapper Lil Baby, a close friend and frequent collaborator, on April 17, 2018. The song went on to become one of his most popular recordings, with millions of views on YouTube and SoundCloud. After leaks, it was eventually released as a non-album single. On August 3, Gunna collaborated with Canadian rapper Nav on Travis Scott’s hit “Yosemite,” a highlight track from his third studio album, Astroworld, which also occurred to be the year’s highest-selling album. Scott’s verse in the song resembles Gunna’s verse in “Sold Out Dates.” Gunna’s performance on the chorus accounted for the majority of the song’s fame.

Gunna and Lil Baby collaborated on the song “Drip Too Hard” on September 12, 2018, which served as the lead single on their collaborative mixtape Drip Harder. On October 5, the mixtape was released. Lil Durk, Nav, Young Thug, and Drake all made cameo appearances. On the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard 200, the single and mixtape both reached #4.

Gunna released the platinum-certified single “One Call” on February 1, 2019, as the lead single from his debut studio album, Drip or Drown 2. “Speed it Up,” his second and final single, was released on February 11th. The album was released on February 22 and debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 Chart, with guest performances from fellow Atlanta rappers Lil Baby, Young Thug, and Playboi Carti.

He was featured on American rapper Young Thug’s single “Hot” off the latter’s debut studio album, So Much Fun, on August 16, 2019. The song reached the top of Apple Music’s charts. On October 31 (Halloween), the song was given a remix with an extra verse from American rapper and singer Travis Scott, and it finally reached at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.  Gunna also appears on the album’s “Surf” and the deluxe version’s “Diamonds,” both of which were released in December 2019.

Gunna Biography/Wiki

BIOGRAPHY:

Gunna was featured on three tracks during the week of February 14, 2020. On February 12, he was featured on the late Pop Smoke’s “Dior” remix, which was released. On February 14, he was also featured on Marlo’s “My Hood” and on da Track on A Boogie wit da Hoodie’s song “Numbers,” alongside Roddy Ricch and London. Later, Gunna and Nav collaborated on a song called “Turks,” which featured Travis Scott. The song was released as the lead single from Nav’s third studio album, Good Intentions, on March 27, 2020.

Following Scott’s song “Yosemite,” “Turks” is the third time the three artists have cooperated on the same tune. Six days later, on April 2, 2020, he released “Quarantine Clean,” a collaborative tune with producer Turbo and Young Thug that alluded to the COVID-19 pandemic, which was still underway at the time of the song’s release. He released “Skybox,” the lead single from his second studio album, Wunna, on March 6, 2020. It came with a music video to go along with it.  Gunna released the album’s title track, which was also the album’s second single, on May 18, 2020. Gunna released the album four days later, on May 22. Young Thug, Nechie, Lil Baby, Roddy Ricch, and Travis Scott all make cameo cameos. His first number one album, the record debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.

He released the deluxe edition on July 24, 2020, with eight additional songs and guest performances from Yak Gotti, Future, Nav, and Lil Uzi Vert.Gunna and hip-hop collective and record label Internet Money released the single “Lemonade” on August 14, 2020, which featured American singer Don Toliver and Nav.

Gunna awoke a few days earlier with the realisation that he had swallowed a diamond by accident. That’s how the 27-year-old Atlanta rapper’s life is right now.Even his issues appear to be world-class flexes. On an early October afternoon, Gunna tells Complex about a dispute he had with someone he refers to as “a rapper boy,” and how the feud escalated to the point where the other rapper put a price on his head.Gunna laughed it off in the studio with Young Thug and recorded “Dollaz On My Head” after hearing the news.Hundreds of millions of people have listened to that music.

Gunna had a lot of plans for 2020, but he, like everyone else, was forced to put the most of them on hold.
He claims he had finished four or five tracks for a Super Slimey Surfer Edition joint album with Young Thug, Future, and Lil Baby, but the epidemic forced them to postpone their plans.Until the live events industry came to a halt, he was also planning a lengthy tour.

Despite this, he managed to have his most productive year to date, producing his first No. 1 album, Wunna, to critical acclaim.Gunna followed it up a few months later with possibly the only worthwhile deluxe release of 2020, which included eight new tracks. He has yet to tour the record, but he did put on one of the best livestream shows of the season, performing with a full band on a luxurious Los Angeles rooftop.

In his spare time, Gunna has found ways to stay in the public eye, including an appearance in Travis Scott’s latest single, “Franchise,” which was shot at Michael Jordan’s Chicago estate.”They wanted someone else to do it, but I do all my own stunts,” Gunna proudly says of his decision to hang in the sky on top of a car during filming his part.

Why wouldn’t he, after all?Right now, whatever Gunna touches turns to gold (or platinum).Even “Lemonade,” his one-off duet with Internet Money, has just gone viral. It’s presently the world’s third-most-streamed song on Spotify.
Complex met up with Gunna this week to speak about his tremendously successful year so far and what’s next for him.Below is the interview, which has been minimally edited and condensed for clarity.

Yesterday, I noticed you swallowed one of your jewels. What the hell happened there?I only noticed it was gone when I awoke.I’d eaten some candy, maybe the little chewies, and that’s how the diamond appeared. So you’ve discovered you’re a diamond? So, what’s next?

I’m about to learn. I’ve only just swallowed it, so I’m not sure yet. [Laughs]. I’m in good spirits right now, but I’ll update you in a few days. What words would you use to define this stage of your career? What is the current state of the energy? It’s excellent. Everything is increasing in value. I’m about to apply greater pressure because I believe the world is about to open up again, allowing us to move and perform once more. I’m going to schedule everything perfectly so that I can make a bigger impact when I’m able to touch them. I imagine myself as a performer who has an impact on others. I have to provide. Everything, including my shows, is connected. Are you already making plans for your upcoming performances? Yes, most certainly. My current stage is insane. It’ll be a big deal. All we have to do now is wait. I believe that the overseas market will be the first to open.

Do you believe Wunna is deserving of any honours or awards?Certainly, and it isn’t just me. I believe it has a chance to win a few awards, or at the very least be nominated for a few. I’m not sure, since, as I previously stated, I’m an artist who has to be out where people can experience and comprehend the music, but everything is closed. My music is a way of life for me, thus it exists.

What do you believe your main competitor for Rap Album of the Year at the Grammys will be?None, because I don’t believe anyone else has done an album with a whole theme like I did. I created an entire aura. That isn’t even my first endeavour of this nature. I work on projects with themes, and I follow up and go above and above to ensure that you comprehend the concept. You realised Wunna was a different person. With Drip or Drown, you understand that I went under water with roughly $15,000 to $20,000 worth of garments on, totally dripped. Everyone doesn’t get it yet, but they will. Everyone didn’t understand “drip” at first, but now they do, don’t you agree?

Your most recent album covers have gone viral. Do you think about getting viral on the internet when you’re creating album covers? No. I basically try to make it a whole package, especially with the titles and music. I’d like everything to match. I don’t think about if it will stick out because I already stand out.

Since the start of quarantine, how many songs do you think you’ve written?I’ve written between 200 and 300 songs. I had completed a hundred tunes by June. That is something I know since I walked through it with my engineer and looked at it.
