Kelly Rowan (born October 26, 1965) is a Canadian actress and former model who has worked in film and television. Rowan is an Ottawa native who studied acting in London and New York City before pursuing a career as a model. She went on to star in the horror thriller The Gate (1987) before winning a Gemini Award for Best Actress for her role in the Canadian television series Adrift.  Rowan featured as Mattie Shaw on the series Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years (1996–1997) after a lead part in Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh (1995).

Rowan rose to international prominence after portraying California real estate entrepreneur Kirsten Cohen on the American television series The O.C. from 2003 to 2007. From 2012 through 2015, she starred in the crime series Perception as a leading lady.
Rowan was born in Ottawa, Ontario, on October 26, 1965 and attended Toronto’s Northern Secondary School. She dropped out of UWO to pursue acting and studied at the British American Drama Academy in London and the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City.  Rowan supported himself in New York by working as a model.

Rowan went on to perform in films such as The Gate (1987), Hook (1991), Three to Tango (1999), and One Eight Seven after studying acting and modelling in New York (1997).

She earned a Gemini Award in 1993 for her role in the television film Adrift. In the television series Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years, she played Matty Shaw, a funeral parlour operator and gunsmith, from 1995 to 1996

In 2003, she was cast in The O.C., a Fox television series, playing Kirsten Cohen, a recovering alcoholic mother. For this role, she received a Prism Award in 2006.  She played Natalie Vincent in the TNT series Perception from 2012 to 2015.

Her executive producing credits include the 2008 television picture The Good Times Are Killing Me and the 2007 television film She Drives Me Crazy, her third Lifetime effort.

Rowan has helped with the Young Storytellers Foundation as an actress. In late June 2007, Rowan announced her engagement to David Thomson, 3rd Baron Thomson of Fleet.  Rowan, aged 42, gave birth to their daughter on April 28, 2008 in Los Angeles, and they called off their engagement.

“Did you get my froyo, Jimmy, honey?” Pistachio. “Thank you, honey,” says the narrator.
Melinda Clarke transformed a guest star appearance as a self-described gold-digging Orange County housewife into one of the most intriguing series regulars on The O.C. with merely 10 words and a sly delivery. Clarke created a complex web of machinations, intrigue, and grifting as Julie Cooper (or Julie Cooper Nichol, depending on which season you’re watching), creating a figure who was sometimes awful, sometimes endearing, but always — genuinely, always — intriguing.

In August 2003, we joined Ryan Atwood (Ben McKenzie), a troubled teen from Chino who is taken in by his public defender, Sandy Cohen, in the opulent McMansions of Orange County, California (Peter Gallagher). From there, he meets a diverse group of individuals, including Sandy and Kirsten Cohen’s (Kelly Rowan) son Seth (Adam Brody), Marissa Cooper (Mischa Barton), and Summer Roberts, her best friend (Rachel Bilson). Julie begins as a malicious presence as Marissa’s mother and Jimmy Cooper’s (Tate Donovan) wife. She sees Ryan’s presence — during her own personal struggle — as a threat to everything she’s tried to achieve for her daughter as a girl from the wrong side of the tracks who pushed her way up the social ladder. Julie, on the other hand, develops into a focal point for some of the show’s most important themes regarding class and gender over the course of four seasons, culminating in a woman confident in her own abilities and secure in her independence. Before it became a marketing technique, she was a “strong female character.”

Clarke (a.k.a. Mindy) has returned to Newport Beach — at least, virtually — as the co-host of a highly awaited podcast with former co-star Rachel Bilson, 14 years after the show’s closure. Bilson and Clarke interview cast members, writers, artists, and musicians who worked on the beloved programme in Welcome to the O.C., Bitches!, which is half recap, part behind-the-scenes gossip. Episode 1 aired on April 27 and featured creator and showrunner Josh Schwartz revisiting the show’s pilot. The second segment, which was released on Tuesday, focused on some of casting director Patrick Rush’s choices, notably the controversial decision to cast 24-year-old Ben McKenzie as star-crossed lovers Ryan Atwood and Marissa Cooper opposite 16-year-old Mischa Barton.

revisit everyone seems to be going on, as it is interspersed with Clarke and Bilson’s own experiences and commentary, as well as insights garnered from hindsight. Clarke was just 33 when she debuted as Julie in a Juicy Couture tracksuit. She’s 52 now, and has seen her own daughter grow up, so she has a new perspective on her role. “Julie began as this very shallow woman, but we eventually see that she is not one-dimensional,” Melinda Clarke says. She’s a human being on a journey of self-discovery that takes her through a variety of life’s crucial components. When she loses a kid, we are finally able to glimpse her humanity. The character was quite satisfying. I’m on my own journey while listening to and watching this podcast. I’m watching the show from a completely different perspective. “And this is what’s becoming unexpected – books about The O.C.

ulie is an incredible survivor. I am what I am, she says. So, what’s the deal? It doesn’t matter whether you despise me. That is something I aspire to.” “We ask all of our guests how they feel about rewatching the show, and some are frightened; I believe Peter  stated he was nervous to watch.” I was worried since Julie is such a larger-than-life character, and I expected a lot of overacting. Julie, on the other hand, is that person who changes her demeanour depending on who is in front of her.  She is a skilled manipulator in this regard. She wants something from Caleb, something from Kiki, and she goes about life almost like a thief in order to acquire it. I was pleasantly impressed by how well the cast’s chemistry held up over time.”

She explained that she’d been asked to do this and offered me other examples, like The Office Ladies and Fake Doctors, Real Friends. What a fantastic approach to engage and reconnect with folks during such a trying time! I’m not used to putting myself out there like this. We do scripted speech as actors. It’s been nicely edited and lit. It’s a nice opportunity for me to push myself into something a little uncomfortable.” “Maybe! Hopefully, the audience’s reaction to the show is that I’m nothing like her. But I do have to admit that, more than anything else I’ve done in the past — because I’ve played a dominatrix and a lot of sci-fi type characters — Julie’s sense of humour reminds me a lot of Mindy. That kind of world does not motivate me; I prefer the simple things in life. I’m far too indolent to take on the role of Julie Cooper. She starts her day at 5 a.m.”

Kelly Rowan Biography/Wiki

BIOGRAPHY:

“That’s exactly what I did!” My kid attended to school in the Valley, where I lived. My mother has been doing Pilates since the 1960s, and I grew up as a ballet dancer. It’s something I’ve been doing since the 1990s. I started attending to cardio barre when it opened near my daughter’s dance studio in Studio City.

“Hollywood has a habit of casting younger women in roles that are much older. I was 31 when I portrayed Lady Heather on CSI, and the character was created as a 45-year-old. When I was cast as Julie, I was clearly young. My daughter was three when she was born, and she is now twenty-one years old. Now that I’ve lived through the adolescent years, I see things through a different lens. But we discovered that Mischa was only 16, so if I was 18 or 19 when Marissa was born, I was just a few years older. If you watch the second episode, we have Patrick Rush, our casting director, and we talk about how people would comment on the fact that Mischa was 16 or 17 and Ben Mackenzie was 23 or 24. ‘If I had truly placed a young man of 17 next to Mischa Barton, it would not have looked correct,’ Patrick said as a casting director. You needed someone with a few years of experience. At that age, some boys haven’t fully matured.”

“No, I haven’t!” I’m hoping she’ll make an appearance on the show. I once met her at a [benefit]. Kelly [Rowan] and I were both in Toronto at the same time, and Peter [Gallagher] was also there. Rachel and I hadn’t remained in touch in a long time. Adam Brody and Olivia Wilde were both in Toronto for the [Toronto International Film Festival]. Apart from that, we attempted to meet up at Peter’s a number of summers ago, but it didn’t work out. “However, we’ll do it.”

My favourite of her deliveries was when we were on the yacht and she said, “Hellooo Ryan,” as if she’d heard about Ryan. She reminds me a lot of Julie Cooper.“No, she’s at home with her 6-year-old,” says the narrator. We conduct our own investigation. When we record, we bring completely different experiences and memories to the table. The show is broken down, and not everything is included in the podcast. However, we believe that our listeners will recognise that each episode of our podcast will be slightly different. Josh Schwartz clearly knows his pilot scene by scene, and a casting director will recall his casting experience.

We chat a little more about Peter’s experience and less about the episode with him; an editor will talk about adding music — each episode will have its own flavour.”
“Because I’m not in every episode, I’m paying attention to details that I’ve never noticed before or can’t recall.” Take, for example, the Tijuana incident. I want to make sure I bring up Ryan and Marissa’s relationship, Seth and Summer’s relationship, Sandy and Kirsten’s relationship, and all of the other show’s dynamics. I’m also blown away by how nicely these adult storylines were written. They must deal with flirtation and the possibility of adultery. I’m particularly paying attention to Adam Brody’s decisions and how he reinvented that conversation and persona.”

What Julie did to her as a teenager, when she was unaware of how she was navigating life and feeling so alone. I can only speak for myself, but working with Mischa was an utter pleasure. Professionalism was the only thing I encountered. Yes, she was an It Girl who, in many ways, was the show’s face and drew a lot of attention. If that’s where the emphasis was focused, it detracts from the job she [done] on the show. But Mischa played [that character] with such true likeability that she’s delighted to be there in the Thanksgiving episode, where she ends up going to Chino with Ryan! She wants to learn more about him and connect with him, but he refuses to share any of this with her. They’ve gotten closer towards the end of the episode. It was wonderful to go back and witness that plot, as I don’t recall it well.”
