After Villa’s 4–0 loss to Everton in November, he elected to stay in North West England and go partying. Rémi Garde, the club’s new manager, penalised Grealish for his decision by making him practise with the under-21 team, saying, “You have to behave like a professional, and that was not the case this time for Jack.” On December 8, he resumed full training.
On January 7, 2016, Leeds United head coach Steve Evans revealed that Villa had turned down a loan request for Grealish.
Villa finished last in the Premier League, putting an end to their position as ever-presents. Grealish appeared in 16 games, all of which were losses, beating the previous record of worst season held by Sunderland’s Sean Thornton, who lost all 11 of his appearances in 2002–03. After claims that Grealish was at a party at a Birmingham hotel that had to be shut down by police early the next morning, Villa launched an internal disciplinary investigation in September. Owner Tony Xia responded on Twitter, saying Grealish needed to focus on and off the pitch, as well as interact with the proper people. After accepting a charge of aggressive conduct for a stamp on Conor Coady in Villa’s 1–1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers in October, he was suspended for three matches.

The English FA approached him after he was left out of the Republic of Ireland under-21 team for three qualifiers in October 2012. Noel King, the Republic of Ireland’s under-21 manager, said in May 2013 that the 17-year-old was considering a move to England, thus he was not considered for a friendly against Denmark. King later intervened to reassure Grealish and his family that he was still a part of his plans.

Grealish was nominated to the Republic of Ireland under-21 squad again in August 2014. Grealish was initially expected to decline the call up to the under-21s because he was indecisive about his international future, but he did play for the Republic of Ireland in a 2–0 loss to Germany. After speaking with Martin O’Neill, it was later revealed that Grealish had denied a call-up to the senior Irish team.
Grealish pulled out of a Republic of Ireland under-21 squad for a game against Norway in October 2014 to play in a behind closed doors friendly for his club Aston Villa, and England under-21 manager Gareth Southgate confirmed that the player’s situation was being monitored by the Football Association. Grealish rejected reports on the 17th of October that he had declared for Ireland and would make his senior debut the following month.
Grealish was named the Football Association of Ireland’s Under-21 player of the year in March 2015, after which he announced that he had taken a year off from youth internationals to focus on breaking into the Aston Villa first team, and that he expected to be back playing for Ireland in the near future.
