Nicole Scherzinger is an American singer who was born Nicole Prascovia Elikolani Valiente on June 29, 1978. She began performing at the age of 14 and studied musical theatre at Wright State University. She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and reared in Louisville, Kentucky. Scherzinger dropped out of college to pursue a career in music, touring with the American rock band Days of the New before finding small success with Eden’s Crush, a girl group formed through The WB’s Popstars.
Scherzinger rose to stardom as the lead vocalist of the Pussycat Dolls, one of the best-selling girl groups of all time, after small acting jobs. Her position in the group was a source of dispute within it, finally leading to its dissolution in 2009. Despite his mainstream fame, Scherzinger has failed to carve himself a successful solo singing career. Her debut album, Her Name Is Nicole, was shelved, and she went on to make two somewhat successful studio albums (Killer Love in 2011 and Big Fat Lie in 2014). (The number-one hit single “Don’t Hold Your Breath” is included in Killer Love.)
Scherzinger also dabbled in television, winning Dancing with the Stars in 2010 and appearing as a judge on The Sing-Off (2009–2010), The X Factor US (2011), four seasons of The X Factor UK (2012–2013, 2016–2017), and Australia’s Got Talent (2009–2010). (2019). During this time, she made her West End debut in the 2014 revival of Cats, as well as appearances in the Disney animated picture Moana (2016) and the television film Dirty Dancing (2017). Scherzinger began serving as a panellist on The Masked Singer in 2019, and she reunited with the Pussycat Dolls for an upcoming tour.
Scherzinger has sold more than 16 million records as a solo artist and has been nominated for Grammys and Laurence Olivier Awards. Her other business pursuits include clothing lines and a fragrance, as well as working as a Special Olympics ambassador and a UNICEF UK supporter.
Nicole Prascovia Elikolani Valiente was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on June 29, 1978, to Alfonso Valiente of Filipino ancestry and Rosemary Elikolani Frederick of Native Hawaiian, Ukrainian, and Polish ancestry.
When Nicole was two years old, Alfonso abandoned the family.Rosemary then married Gary Scherzinger, a German-American who adopted Nicole and gave her the surname Scherzinger. Keala, her younger sister, is her only sibling. They moved to Louisville, Kentucky, when she was six years old, where her mother worked as a clerk and her stepfather as a welder.
Scherzinger described her background as challenging, as she grew up “without much money” and supported her parents by working as a server, getting local modelling jobs, and being a member of the Kentucky Kingdom theatre troupe.Scherzinger was raised as a Roman Catholic, with her grandpa being a priest, and considered herself conservative with “very strong religious values,” going to church twice a week to please her mother.
She enrolled in the Actors Theatre of Louisville at the age of 14, and was cast in her first professional production, La Bête, at the age of 14.She graduated from duPont Manual High School’s Youth Performing Arts School (YPAS) in 1996, where she took part in a number of plays, including Alice in Wonderland, in which she played Alice. Scherzinger was taken aback when she was cast since she was up against “a girl with blue eyes and blonde hair.” She was one of the youngest inductees into the DuPont Manual Alumni Hall of Fame in 2007.
Since 2013, Scherzinger has sponsored YPAS with a $2,000 annual scholarship in his honour. She attended Wright State University on a scholarship and majored in theatre arts with a dance minor. Scherzinger landed lead roles in regional productions of Chicago, Guys and Dolls, and Show Boat during this time period.Days of the New band leader Travis Meeks hired Scherzinger to contribute vocals to their self-titled second studio album during her senior year of college.
Meeks was looking for someone who could “provide some more world/operatic textures and noises,” as he put it. Scherzinger dropped out of college as a result of the album’s support tour. Toward the end of the tour, Meeks said that the two had grown apart musically, claiming that she “didn’t appear to comprehend music very well,” but that she was a “wonderful entertainer.” Scherzinger was named 2017 Alumna of the Year by the Wright State Alumni Association in 2018.
Nicole Scherzinger Biography/Wiki
Due to the hours of network television exposure the group would receive, Warner Bros. imprint London-Sire Records signed the group to a recording contract before the band was named and had finalised its membership in 2001, Scherzinger’s mother saw a commercial for the WB’s show Popstars USA,a reality series with the goal of chronicling the group’s formation until the recording of their debut album,.
Scherzinger was first hesitant to audition, but subsequently changed her mind since she saw it as an opportunity to visit Los Angeles. For her audition, she sang Whitney Houston’s cover of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You,” and formed Eden’s Crush with Ana Maria Lombo, Maile Misajon, Ivette Sosa, and Rosanna Tavarez. In March 2001, they released their debut single, “Get Over Yourself,” which debuted at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 and made them the first female artist to begin at number one on the Hot 100 Singles Sales list.
Popstars (2001), their first studio album, debuted at number six on the Billboard 200 chart. They went on to tour with ‘N Sync and Jessica Simpson, but their label went bankrupt by the end of the year, and the group split. During this period, the Black Eyed Peas’ front man, will.i.am, approached Scherzinger about joining the band, but her then-boyfriend, Nick Hexum, declined. Following the band’s disbandment, Scherzinger dabbled in acting, appearing in episodes of My Wife and Kids (2002) and in a cameo in Chasing Papi, an independent comedy (2003).
Scherzinger went to Arista Records in New York with a demo CD of her own composed work under her Hawaiian family name Nicole Kea in August 2003, opting for a solo recording contract. A citywide blackout halted her performance, and she was forced to leave. Meanwhile, Robin Antin, the originator of the Pussycat Dolls burlesque troupe, formed a joint venture with Interscope Records and staged an open audition for a separate recording group with Jimmy Iovine and Ron Fair.
In December 2003, Scherzinger, Melody Thornton, Carmit Bachar, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Sutta, and Kimberly Wyatt successfully auditioned with Carmit Bachar, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Sutta, and Kimberly Wyatt after will.i.am suggested her to Iovine in the hopes of landing a solo deal. Scherzinger took over the majority of the vocals as lead singer and is the only member of the band to earn composition credits on their debut album, PCD, released in September 2005. The album was preceded by their international breakthrough single, “Don’t Cha,” which reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100. “Stickwitu” and “Buttons,” the latter of which was nominated for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards, were among the album’s other number-one singles.
Scherzinger secured a global publication deal with Universal Music Publishing Group in February 2006, which covered her future songwriting. While continuing to work on her own music, Scherzinger’s prominence grew as a result of her job as lead singer. Scherzinger’s first solo release was a guest appearance on Avant’s “Lie About Us” in July 2006, and he then teamed with Diddy on “Come to Me,” which became Scherzinger’s first solo Billboard Hot 100 top ten smash.
Scherzinger revealed in March 2007 that her debut studio album will be named Her Name Is Nicole, and that it would be released in late summer. The project’s four singles—”Whatever U Like” with T.I., “Baby Love” with will.i.am, “Supervillain,” and “Puakenikeni”—all failed to score on the Billboard charts, however “Baby Love” was a mild hit in other regions. After a series of setbacks, Scherzinger opted not to release any further singles from the album, and Her Name Is Nicole was eventually shelved at her request, allowing her to concentrate on the Dolls’ second album. During a live concert on March 10, 2008, at a US Army camp in the Persian Gulf Region, the Pussycat Dolls played for over 2,000 US and coalition service troops (2008).
Doll Domination, the Pussycat Dolls’ second and final album, was released on September 23, 2008, and reached number four on the Billboard 200.The singles “When I Grow Up” and “I Hate This Part,” which charted at number nine and eleven on the Billboard Hot 100, respectively, were included on the album. Both tracks were written specifically for Scherzinger’s solo album.
The trio proceeded on the international Doll Domination Tour the next year, which began on January 18, 2009. While on tour, Scherzinger was asked to rewrite the pop version of Slumdog Millionaire’s “Jai Ho” (2008). The song was titled “Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny),” and it was written by A. R. Rahman and the Pussycat Dolls, with Scherzinger listed as a featured artist, generating discontent among the group. The song charted at number one in 17 countries, including the United States, where it reached number fifteen on the Billboard Hot 100 after jumping eighty-five positions in one week.
Scherzinger performed “America the Beautiful” during Wrestlemania XXV at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas on April 5, 2009.Following the conclusion of the tour in August 2009, the band announced a pause to pursue individual careers. Scherzinger was revealed as the third judge for The Sing-first Off’s season in December 2009, alongside Ben Folds and Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men. She made a second season appearance before being replaced by Sara Bareilles.
