Dion Marquise Hayes (November 25, 1995) is an American rapper who goes by the moniker 42 Dugg (pronounced “four-two dugg”). He’s signed to Interscope Records and Lil Baby’s and Yo Gotti’s labels, 4 Pockets Full (4PF) and Collective Music Group (CMG), respectively.  He is most known for his collaborations with American rapper Lil Baby, including as “Grace” and “We Paid,” the latter of which became his first Billboard Hot 100 top ten single. Young & Turnt 2, his second mixtape, was well-received and made his first appearance on the Billboard 200 chart. Free Dem Boyz, his fourth mixtape, was released in 2021 and reached number 8 on the Billboard 200.
Dion Marquise Hayes was born on November 25, 1995, in Detroit, Michigan, and grew up near Whittier Avenue and Wayburn Street on the city’s East Side.

The number “42” in Dugg’s name is a numerical reference to the Hustle Boys, a local gang. The Hustle Boys are a Detroit branch of the Los Angeles’ 42 Gangster Crips. He was arrested and sentenced to 4 years in prison for carjacking when he was 15, but a fight with an inmate while inside increased his sentence to 6 years. On two occasions, he was held in solitary confinement for a month. He studied his song writing during this time and was liberated at the age of 22.  In 2017, he met fellow artist Lil Baby.

“The Streets” and “STFU” were Hayes’ first hit singles. He signed to Lil Baby’s 4 Pockets Full (4PF) and Yo Gotti’s Collective Music Group (CMG) in partnership with Interscope Records after writing slam poetry with him. 42 Dugg gained global notoriety when he was featured on Lil Baby’s song “Grace,” which charted at number 48 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 2020. In May 2020, he was also featured on Lil Baby’s song “We Paid,” which reached number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. His mixtape Young & Turnt 2 soared to number 58 on the Billboard 200 and number six on the Billboard Independent Albums chart as a result of this. [5] Hayes followed up his success with guest appearances on songs by Marshmello, Lil Keed, Meek Mill, Blac Youngsta, Big Sean, T.I., Kaash Paige, Tor Lanez, and Mulatto, among others.

OMB Peezy, an American hip hop musician, was eventually charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony in connection with the incident. All three people who were hurt survived. Billboard awarded 42 Dugg the “R&B/Hip-Hop Rookie of the Month” in May 2021. The next week, on May 21, 2021, Dugg released Free Dem Boyz, a 19-track mixtape dedicated to all of his jailed buddies. The album includes “4 da Gang,” a “standout” hit featuring Roddy Ricch, as well as guest appearances from Lil Durk, Rowdy Rebel, and Fivio Foreign.

He was also named to the yearly XXL Freshman Class in 2021. 42 Dugg’s music usually has a slurred vocal style with auto-tune. His whistle has become a characteristic sound for him, and it opens practically every song on his upcoming mixtape Young and Turnt Vol 2 in 2020. Hayes was arrested on federal firearms charges on March 10, 2020. According to the criminal complaint, security video showed Hayes holding, loading, and discharging a 9 mm Glock pistol. Hayes spent two months as a fugitive after fleeing from a traffic stop in a hired SUV after driving through a stop sign on June 5, 2020. To apprehend Hayes, authorities collaborated with the rental firm. Hayes was apprehended on August 4, 2020, and charged with running from police, a third-degree crime.

42 Dugg is prepared to part with some cash. His gaze is drawn to a wall of Nike sneakers as he walks through Stadium Goods in Soho. A pair of diamond chains clink across his chest as he darts that way, and a couple of sales staff gravitate to his corner. The Detroit rapper scours the wall for a pair of Nike Supreme Air Force 1s. He requests for four pairs from the associates who haven’t left his right side. Dugg has already moved on to a pair of Nike Air Force 1 Black Skeletons and purchases a couple pairs while the Stadium Goods employee records the order on his iPad. He nods to his companions, who eagerly co-sign the decision. When Dugg’s eyes fall on the Off-White University Blues sitting on a high shelf, I’m still calculating how much at least eight pairs of sneakers will cost. They’re currently selling for upwards of $2,000 on StockX, but Dugg is unfazed as he climbs up onto a bench and examines them more closely. He obeys an associate’s request to get down, but not before asking for the University Blues and numerous pairs of Travis Scott’s Nike collaborations.

He takes an armful of sweatshirts and orders an extra pair of Dunks on his way to the register. After ringing up over a dozen pairs of sneakers and apparel, a woman behind the register announces, “Your total comes to $8,860.67.” “Damn,” exhales one of Dugg’s friends. Dugg takes a wad of dollars out of his pocket and starts counting out thousand-dollar stacks. Dugg searches his pocket for loose coins while the associate counts each pile. He slides 67 cents across the glass countertop, pivots, and dashes out the door. The associate calls out, holding up a few bills, “Wait, you have some change.” “Keep it going,” Dugg says without pausing.

42 dugg Biography/Wiki

BIOGRAPHY:

42 Dugg is moving like a rockstar these days. He has a fast growing collection of luxury automobiles at home, including a Lamborghini truck, Bentley, G-Wagon, Maybach truck, Caddy truck, and Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, in addition to his shoe fixation. He’s already an hour late to his photo session at Complex’s Midtown Manhattan office as we leave the store. It’s rap time. He assures me, however, that he doesn’t feel particularly renowned.

“A lot of people have told me, ‘You have no idea how enormous you are.’ He insists, “No, I’m so regular.” “I don’t know how to change since I’m so me.” We don’t know how to be famous, not even [Lil Baby]. We just go about our business as usual.” “I don’t know how to change no shit like that,” Dugg adds, revealing that he still goes to the mall, hoops with friends, and drives his own car. I’m afraid that if I change, I won’t be myself.”

42 Dugg, whose name is pronounced “four-two Dugg,” has been steadily ascending the celebrity ladder for the past two years. He rose to prominence after releasing the mixtape Young and Turnt in 2019, which featured hit tunes including “The Streets” and “STFU.” Then, in February 2020, he made an appearance on Lil Baby’s track “Grace,” three months before the two released “We Paid,” which gave 42 Dugg his first Billboard Hot 100 top 10 single. The smash tune elevated Dugg to national prominence and increased sales of the Young and Turnt sequel, which peaked at No. 58 on the Billboard 200. The 26-year-old is currently working on his next album, which has the potential to take his career to new heights.

Dugg, who was born Dion Marquise Hayes in Detroit, credits his aversion to stardom to the city’s small-town feel. He claims that “Detroit keeps you grounded.” “They don’t bombard you in Detroit.” They don’t think you’re very religious. It’s just the way it is. ‘Keep it up,’ they’ll say if they’re messing with the music. Or they’ll tell you, ‘All right, we’re not fucking with that.’” Dugg is fortunate in that he claims Detroit “hasn’t told me they ain’t fucking with anything yet.” So I’m thinking, “I’ve got to be doing something worthwhile.” Dugg, on the other hand, wasn’t always pleased with his job. In 2015, while doing time in prison for a federal weapons conviction, he began rapping. “I was in solitary confinement, and I was pretty stressed out because I didn’t have anything to do,” he says. “I just started creating songs with a few of notepads.” “However, as I was out of the hole, I threw it away.” He ended up penning songs that connected more powerfully with him after he was sent back to isolation for the second time. He recalls thinking, “I feel like I found something.” Despite this, he claims he still has a lot to learn. “I wasn’t constructing hooks or anything,” he clarifies now.

There was just one [speed] for me: rapid rap.” Dugg found a speed that suited him thanks to the advice of one of his friends, who told him to focus on his specific skills. “When I initially got out, my homeboy and I did a song, and he used to tell me, ‘You have to calm down.’ You’ve got to keep up with the beat.’ After that, I figured it out.” Dugg claims that the heart of his sound came through trial and error, although he gives credit to Yo Gotti and Lil Baby for polishing it. During Meek Mill’s Motivation Tour in Detroit in March 2019, he signed a deal with Yo Gotti’s label Collective Music Group and Lil Baby’s 4PF. When asked why he chose a joint venture, Dugg’s response is straightforward. He explains, “Gotti was Gotti, but Baby was my man’s.” “I’m like, if I do anything, I want my men to be involved.” So there you have it. I messed with Gotti’s movement as well as Baby’s entire wave.” Yo Gotti and Lil Baby have been keeping an eye on Dugg since the beginning of his rise. In 2017, Dugg flew up to Atlanta to see Lil Baby, and the two connected over their mutual passion of gambling. Aside from sharing interests, both musicians, according to Dugg, have served as mentors.

“They encourage me, yet they allow me be myself,” he says. Gotti and Baby were also instrumental in encouraging him to include hooks in his tracks. “That’s how you get on the radio… “Hits have hooks,” they’d say. Lil Baby and 42 Dugg’s tune “We Paid,” which has already been certified double platinum, reflects this mindset. Dugg recalls the recording session, “We were just freestyling, and the whole 4PF was in the studio.” “A lot of times, Baby and I will throw in some beats and start chatting nonsense to one other.” That’s how ‘We Paid’ came to be.” “All of my songs are about emancipating someone.” I made it for my friends who are in jail and my loved ones who aren’t here with me.” Dugg didn’t recognise how unique it was at first. He admits, “I didn’t even enjoy the music.” “I didn’t like it since the beat was off.” So I wasn’t too confident when I started rapping until he played it again. When we were filming ‘Grace,’ [Lil Baby] played it, and it became viral. ‘What the heck is this song?’ said everyone in Detroit. It hasn’t even been given a name. Then he gave it the title ‘We Paid’ and said he’d put it on the deluxe. We assumed that ‘Grace’ would be the big hit. QC, P, and the rest of the crew thought ‘Grace’ was a smash hit. “That motherfucking’Grace’ was hard as hell,” I say.
