Pattinson, Robert Douglas Thomas (born 13 May 1986) is an English actor. Pattinson, who has appeared in both big-budget and small films, is one of the world’s highest-paid actors. Time magazine named him one of the world’s 100 most influential individuals, and he was named to the Forbes Celebrity 100 list.

Pattinson began his cinematic career as Cedric Diggory in the fantasy film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, after beginning his acting career at the age of 15 in a London theatre club (2005). He rose to prominence as Edward Cullen in the Twilight Saga film series (2008–2012), which made over $3.3 billion worldwide.

He appeared in David Cronenberg’s thriller Cosmopolis (2012), David Michôd’s dystopian western The Rover (2014), James Gray’s adventure drama The Lost City of Z (2016), the Safdie Brothers’ crime drama Good Time (2017), Claire Denis’ science-fiction drama High Life (2018), and Robert Eggers’ psychological horror film The Lighthouse (2017). He made a comeback in popular films with a prominent role in Christopher Nolan’s spy drama Tenet (2020), and he will play the DC Comics superhero, Batman, in Matt Reeves’ film The Batman (2022). Pattinson, in addition to acting, also plays the guitar and piano, writes music, and has sung on several film soundtracks. He has been the face of Dior Homme fragrance since 2013, and he supports various charities, including the GO Campaign. Douglas, Robert Pattinson, Thomas was born on May 13, 1986, in London, the youngest of three children of Clare (Charlton), a model agency booker, and Richard Pattinson, a vintage vehicle dealer.

He was up in Barnes in a modest family with two older sisters, Elizabeth (Lizzy) and Victoria. Pattinson began learning the guitar and keyboard when he was four years old. He attended Tower House School, from which he was expelled at the age of 12 for shoplifting adult magazines from a post office kiosk and afterward selling them to his male classmates. He finished his education at The Harrodian School.

As a teenager, he worked as a photo model for British fashion labels and magazines to supplement his income, and he acquired an interest in cinema, citing Jack Nicholson, Marlon Brando, and Jean-Paul Belmondo as acting idols. In his late teens and early twenties, he played acoustic guitar at open mic evenings in pubs around London, singing his own written songs either solo as Bobby Pattinson pondered becoming a musician or attending university to study speech-writing, but he never considered pursuing an acting career; his high school teacher even encouraged him not to join the theatre club because she thought he was not suited to the creative arts.

However, when he was 13, he joined the Barnes Theatre Company, a local amateur theatre organisation, after his father persuaded him to do so because he was quite timid.  He auditioned for the play Guys and Dolls at the age of 15 and after two years of working backstage, and he received his first role as a Cuban dancer with no lines. He was recognised by a talent agent who was sitting in the audience and began hunting for professional opportunities after landing the lead role of George Gibbs in the next play Our Town.  In addition, he appeared in the plays Macbeth, Anything Goes, and Tess of the d’Urbervilles.

Pattinson had planned to attend university but was unable to do so because the filming of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire ran over schedule. He used to live in Soho, London, with fellow actor and close friend Tom Sturridge. Pattinson appeared in the German made-for-television film Ring of the Nibelungs in 2004, as well as in filmmaker Mira Nair’s costume drama Vanity Fair, however his sequences in the latter were cut and are only available on the DVD version.

He was slated to appear in the UK premiere of The Woman Before at the Royal Court Theatre in May 2005, however, he was sacked just before the performance and was replaced by Tom Riley.  Later that year, he appeared in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as Cedric Diggory.  For this role, he was designated The Times’ “British Star of Tomorrow” that year, and he had been dubbed “the next Jude Law” on numerous occasions.  He learned to scuba dive for this part.

Pattinson received positive reviews for his performance in The Haunted Airman, a psychological thriller that premiered on BBC Four on October 31, 2006.

According to The Stage, “[he] played the airman of the title with a precise combination of young dread and world jaded cynicism.” On February 19, 2007, he starred as a supporting actor in The Bad Mother’s Handbook, a one-off television drama based on Kate Long’s best-selling novel.

According to TV Guide, Pattinson was nervous about auditioning because he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to live up to the “perfection” demanded of the part.  Pattinson became a cinematic celebrity overnight after the film was released on November 21, 2008. Despite mixed reviews for the picture, critics lauded his connection with co-star Kristen Stewart.  Pattinson was described as a “competent and exotically attractive” actor by the New York Times, while Roger Ebert stated he was “well-chosen” for the role.  How to Be, Pattinson’s other 2008 movie, was a low-budget comedy drama film written and directed by Oliver Irving. It was shown at a number of film festivals and received mixed reviews from reviewers.  Pattinson then acted as Salvador Dal in Paul Morrison’s Spanish-British thriller Little Ashes. He also appeared in Daisy Gili’s short film The Summer House.

on their quest for ultimate contentment. In the Twilight sequel The Twilight Saga: New Moon, which was released on November 20, 2009, he reprised his role as Edward Cullen. The picture grossed a record-breaking $142,839,137 in its opening weekend and a total of $709,827,462 worldwide.

Despite the unfavourable reviews, Chicago Tribune film critic Michael Phillips thought Pattinson was “fascinating to watch” despite the awful makeup. “Pattinson’s actually not in the film that much, but he does his best when he’s around,” remarked Bill GoodyKoontz of the Arizona Republic, and Michael O’Sullivan of the Washington Post thought his acting was “uniformly strong.”

It catapulted Pattinson to global stardom and positioned him among the world’s highest-paid actors.  Pattinson gave a speech during the 81st Academy Awards ceremony in 2009. Robsessed, a documentary on Pattinson’s life and popularity, was published on DVD by Revolver Entertainment on November 10, 2009.The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, his next picture, was released on June 30, 2010, and grossed $698,491,347 worldwide.

Will Lawrence of Empire Online lauded the performance of the film’s three protagonists, writing “Stewart, the most accomplished actor in the love triangle, is still lip-biting, Lautner is still pec-flexing, and Pattinson isn’t quite shedding that fiery-eyed pout. But they’ve all matured into their roles, letting go in a film that (happily) avoids the melodrama of its predecessors.” Remember Me, which Pattinson executive produced and featured in, was released on March 12, 2010.

Despite the film’s mixed reviews, some critics appreciated his portrayal. According to Jake Coyle of The Associated Press, “The young actor exudes an undeniable screen presence. In Remember Me, on the other hand, he pours it on heavily and self-consciously. Tyler (like Edward Cullen) is a reluctant romantic, with low eyes, sleeves rolled up just so, and a cigarette dripping artistically from his mouth.”According to Empire Online’s Ian Nathan, “this is the best thing he’s ever done.” The Hollywood Reporter’s Kirk Honeycutt lauded his connection with co-star Emilie de Ravin in the film, saying that the “scenes between Pattinson and de Ravin emanate genuine warmth.”

In 2011, he played Jacob Jankowski in Water for Elephants, a film based on Sara Gruen’s novel.  The film was met with mixed reactions, but Pattinson’s acting was lauded. Time critic Richard Corliss lauded Pattinson for being “shy and observant,” saying he “radiates a gradual attraction that locks the viewer’s attention on him,” eventually dubbing him “star quality.”

According to Mick LaSalle of the San Francisco Chronicle, Pattinson “holds his own at the heart of a major picture” and is “endlessly watchable.” The Rolling Stone’s Peter Travers noted he “smoulders” in the film and The Hollywood Reporter’s Todd McCarthy commented “Pattinson is totally convincing as Jacob.”  Pattinson played Edward Cullen again in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1, which was released on November 18, 2011 and grossed $705,058,657 at the global box office.  Critics gave the film mixed to unfavourable reviews.

joyless, and loaded with unintentionally humorous moments, Breaking Dawn Part 1 may satisfy the Twilight faithful, but it’s strictly for franchise fans.”  In addition, he played Georges Duroy in a film adaptation of the 1885 novel Bel Ami, which had its world premiere at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival. On February 12, 2012, it was released.  Pattinson starred in David Cronenberg’s film adaption of Don DeLillo’s Cosmopolis.

At the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, the film competed for the Palme d’Or.  It was well received, with Pattinson’s performance receiving special praise. “An eerily exact combination of filmmaker and material, Cosmopolis examines the soullessness of the 1 percent with the cinematic equivalent of latex gloves,” noted Variety’s Justin Chang. “… Pattinson’s terrific performance remains a vital asset.”According to Robbie Collin of The Telegraph, Robert Pattinson’s performance is “outstanding.” “Yes, that Robert Pattinson – in the role of Packer. Pattinson portrays him as a human caldera, with rocky on the surface and volcanic chambers of neurotic energy and self-loathing seething deep underneath.”  “Pattinson, pale and predatory even without his pasty-white vampire makeup, delivers his cold pensées with rhythmic confidence,” Owen Gleiberman of Entertainment Weekly wrote.

Pattinson reprised his role as Edward Cullen in the last instalment of the Twilight franchise, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, which was released on November 16, 2012, and grossed over $829 million worldwide, becoming the Twilight series’ highest-grossing picture.

The film has a 48 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 174 reviews, with the consensus stating: “It is the most delightful chapter in The Twilight Saga, but that’s not enough to make Breaking Dawn Part 2 worth watching for filmgoers who aren’t already franchise converts.”

Pattinson began his modelling career when he was 12 years old. Dior Homme hired him as the face of their Fragrances in 2013. In 2016, he was also named the company’s first brand ambassador for their Menswear range.  He debuted as the new face of Dior Homme Fragrances in a black-and-white short film alongside model Camille Rowe in late 2013. Two of Pattinson’s films premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2014.  First, Pattinson co-starred with Guy Pearce and Scoot McNairy in David Michôd’s futuristic western The Rover.
