We spoke with Arora about everything food-related, from her favourite ingredients to her cooking inspiration. You indicated that you didn’t cook much at first—what changed? I began cooking as a result of my son.
When he got home from school, he said to me, “Mumma, all the other parents and mothers cook such great stuff, and you don’t know how to cook.” So that was one of the challenges I accepted. “You know what, I’ll show you and I can accomplish this,” I said. As a result, I now cook for him on a regular basis. And what do you cook when you do get around to it?
Malaika Arora Biography/Wiki
Chopping and cleaning are clear no-nos for me, but I enjoy combining ingredients, textures, and, of course, presentation. I normally end up making simple meals at home, but I enjoy adding a modern twist to our everyday cuisine. So we’ll have a basic bajra or nachni roti with roasted vegetables, some dal, and rice. People mistakenly believe I don’t eat rice, but I do. I especially enjoy incorporating coconut into my dishes whenever possible. It’s my go-to ingredient because it’s both tasty and nutritious.
I also enjoy recreating my mother’s recipes on occasion. What is a typical meal like on a regular day, both at home and on the go? At home, it’s usually a three-course South Indian meal accompanied by a large glass of green juice and a bowl of fruits. For me, food is an entire mood. I prefer to be vegan, but after recovering from COVID-19, I felt that my body needed some meat, so I started eating fish again. When I’m on the go or on the road, I usually keep nuts and fruits in my handbag.
You’ve been seen out and about with your girlfriends, especially your sister Amrita, eating at the best restaurants in town. What’s the difference between what you and your sister ate as kids and what your children eat now? Yes, there is a significant difference between what we ate as children and what my child eats now. There are a plethora of new super foods on the market that were not previously known or easily accessible. But I honestly believe that, despite the ingredients have changed, we received the same health advantages from our mothers’ and grandmothers’ nuskas. In fact, many ancient traditional foods are making a comeback, but with a fancier name, such as haldi doodh, which has become turmeric latte, and subja, which is chia seeds, though there is a tiny difference between the two. What do you generally order when you go out? Do you have a favourite cafe, restaurant, or delivery service?
I order a wide range of different cuisines. Food is primarily influenced by my emotions. On one day, I might want a vegan flourless cake, and the next, a street-style vada pav. Sequel is one of my favourite Bandra eateries, and I’m also a big fan of the various thalis and South Indian thali restaurants that can be found all around India. Raveena Taurani (of Yogisattva) is a fantastic plant-based cook, and I adore anything she prepares for me. Chef Prateek Sadhu of Star versus Food asks if you’ll be cooking in stilettos. Do you think you’ll be able to pull it off? What do you consider to be perfect kitchen attire?
Cooking in stilettos is only for show. In heels, I can’t cook at all. In fact, at home, I prefer cooking barefoot or in my ordinary house slippers since I believe that cooking with love requires you to be in your comfort zone. On the broadcast, you also reveal some of your mother’s cooking secrets. What are your own particular cooking secrets?
Magic ingredients like haldi, both fresh and powdered, aloe vera, and methi seeds are among my best-kept kitchen secrets. These magical nutrients are not only delicious to consume, but they are also beneficial to your hair and skin when applied directly. And, of course, I keep a bar of dark chocolate on hand since it tastes amazing!

shoes and outfits, but no one to wear them!” Malaika has one son, Arhaan, who is 18 years old, from her marriage to ex-husband Arbaaz Khan. She is now in a relationship with actor Arjun Kapoor. In an interview, she discussed how Arhaan reacted to the news of her and Arbaaz’s breakup. “I would much prefer see my child in a happy setting than in a fully disrupted atmosphere.” My youngster has become significantly more accepting over time. “He can tell that we are both considerably more happy as individuals than we were in our marriage,” she stated on Kareena Kapoor’s chat show, adding, “He did really turn around one day and he did say to me, ‘Mom, it’s lovely to see you happy and smiling.’” Malaika performed on Super Dancer as a substitute for Shilpa Shetty, who recently stated that her family, including her husband and children, have been diagnosed with Covid-19.
