At the age of sixteen, she dropped out of school to become a lap dancer, and then joined a dance ensemble that toured Europe.
Natasha Hamilton and Liz McClarnon were the other initial members. “Right Now,” their debut single, was released in late November 1999 and peaked at number 10 on the UK Singles Chart. Their second song, “See Ya,” was released in March 2000 and was even more successful, peaking at number six. Following their initial breakthrough, Atomic Kitten embarked on an Asian tour, where they earned their first number one hit with “Cradle.” Right Now was released in Japan on March 16, 2000, and in the United Kingdom on October 23, 2000, following the release of two additional singles, “I Want Your Love” and “Follow Me,” with a slightly adjusted track list. In addition, the ensemble produced a cover version of “The Locomotion” for the film Thomas and the Magic Railroad in 2000. However, the record label was persuaded to let the band release one more single from the album. Their first number one hit in the United Kingdom was “Whole Again,” which stood at the top for four weeks. As a result of this success, “Whole Again” was published globally and achieved number one in 18 additional countries, including Germany and New Zealand for six weeks. Kerry Katona was originally included in the song and video for “Whole Again,” but she quit the group several days before the single’s release due to pregnancy.
