Linkin Park is a rock band from the United Kingdom (formed in 1996) It’s a nu-metal band from the United States that’s won two Grammy awards and sold over fifty million records worldwide. Originally, Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, and Rob Bourdon came together to establish Linkin Park since they were all friends from high school in the state of California. Joe Hahn, Dave ‘Phoenix’ Farrell, and Mark Wakefield all joined the band after graduating from high school. Xero was the name of the band when it first formed.
When Xero failed to get a record contract, they recorded their recordings in Shinoda’s bedroom, causing conflicts among the band. Mark Wakefield and Dave Farrell both quit the group at the same time.
Chester Bennington was brought in to fill in for Wakefield’s vacancy on the team. He was originally the lead vocalist for Grey Daze, and his particular singing style let him stand out from the crowd. Initially, the band went under the moniker Hybrid Theory, but with the addition of Bennington to the group, they found new chemistry and changed their name once again to Linkin Park, which is a nod to Lincoln Park in Santa Monica.
Despite the fact that a record contract was difficult to come by for a while, they ultimately signed with Warner Bros. in 1999. With albums like Hybrid Theory (2000) and Meteora (2003), as well as a short electronic phase and finally their last pop moment, they were able to remain ahead of the curve without compromising heaviness or chart success.
Frontman Chester Bennington went unexpectedly only months after the release of their seventh and last album as the original band, bringing an end to a nearly two-decade career that includes five chart-topping albums and tens of millions of records sold across the world.

In 1996, Rob Bourdon, guitarist Brad Delson, and MC/vocalist Mike Shinoda met while attending high school in Southern California, and they founded the rap-rock band Xero, which is still active today. Soon after, bassist Dave “Phoenix” Farrell, vocalist Mark Wakefield, and DJ/art student Joseph Hahn joined the group, and the group began courting record companies while performing in their hometown of Los Angeles, California.
The self-titled demo recording by Xero, however, received little attention, causing Wakefield to withdraw from the band’s touring schedule (he would later resurface as the manager for Taproot). As soon as replacement vocalist Chester Bennington joined the band in 1998, they renamed as Hybrid Theory and released an EP of the same name. Bennington would go on to share vocal duties with Shinoda, which would become an important component of their characteristic sound.
Even though they were still battling to establish an audience, they were eventually noticed by Warner Bros. and given a new name: Linkin Park, which is a misspelled allusion to Lincoln Park in Santa Monica, California. When Warner Bros. vice president Jeff Blue pushed them toward recording a diamond-certified worldwide blockbuster song with Don Gilmore, the band did just that shortly after.
A nod to the band’s heritage-inspired Linkin Park to name their first album Hybrid Theory, which was released in October 2000. “Crawling” and “In the End” were big radio singles; the latter song even peaked at number one on the U.S. Modern Rock chart while simultaneously peaking at number two on the Billboard Hot 100, demonstrating the band’s ability to appeal to a broad audience.
As a consequence of Linkin Park joining the Family Values Tour, the band performed more than 320 shows in only one year (2001). Hybrid Theory had gotten three Grammy nominations and had sold more than seven million copies by the time it was released in January 2002. The band, despite their spectacular ascent, was unable to escape the recording studio and instead spent the rest of the year working with producer Don Gilmore on a follow-up to their critically acclaimed album. Meanwhile, the platinum disc was released just in time for the summer season.
Meteora, their official sophomore effort, debuted in March 2003 to a slew of positive reviews and high hopes. In addition to many contemporary rock singles, such as “Numb,” “Somewhere I Belong,” and “Breaking the Habit,” the band’s crossover appeal was further enhanced by the band’s appearance on the Billboard Hot 100 list concurrently with the album.
The announcement came as Linkin Park began work on their sixth studio album in the spring of 2013. Bennington stated that he would be taking over for Scott Weiland as the lead vocalist of Stone Temple Pilots, but that he would not be leaving Linkin Park and that he intended to be in both bands at the same time.
In October 2013, Bennington demonstrated his dedication to both bands by releasing his first EP with STP, High Rise, and participating with Linkin Park on the remix album Recharged, both of which were released in the same month. ‘A Light That Never Comes,’ the first song from the latter album, which was recorded in conjunction with DJ Steve Aoki, became an international club smash.
The Hunting Party was Linkin Park’s sixth studio album, which was released in June 2014. The record, which was entirely produced by the members of the band, was inspired by the punk, metal, and hardcore music that they had listened to as teenagers. The resultant compilation was loud, raw, and hard, and it included guest performances by Tom Morello, Daron Malakian of System of a Down, Page Hamilton of Helmet, and hip-hop great Rakim.
Despite the fact that it failed to reach the top of the charts in the United States, it reached the top of the charts in half a dozen nations across the globe and became one of the year’s greatest sales in hard rock circles. Following the conclusion of promotional efforts for The Hunting Party, the band went back to the drawing board in order to create a follow-up album. After emerging from the studio in 2017, Linkin Park was followed by a significant change in their sound that proved to be polarising.
The band’s seventh studio album, One More Light, opened with the lead single “Heavy,” a duet with vocalist Kiiara and production by pop composers Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter that served as a preview of what was to come on the album. The record went on to become their sixth number one album and was shortly certified gold, despite the obvious pop trajectory it had.
Linkin Park and Friends: Celebrate Life in Honor of Chester Bennington was held on October 27, 2017, many months after Bennington’s untimely death. The concert was held in Bennington’s memory. Other guests included Zedd, Machine Gun Kelly, Alanis Morissette, and Steve Aoki, among many others. Their last record, One More Light: Live, was a collection of Bennington’s final concerts with the band, and it effectively brought the period to a stop.
The band Linkin Park went on an extended sabbatical after the death of Chester Bennington, however, they continued to work on a variety of archive projects. Hybrid Theory was released as a double-disc collection in late 2020, marking the 20th anniversary of the band’s debut. It comprised Hybrid Theory as well as a bonus package that included live recordings and rarities.
The song “She Couldn’t” was included on the album and was originally recorded in 1999, but was never officially published until now. In January 2021, the electronic duo 100 gets released a remix of the group’s first hit “One Step Closer,” which was produced by the group.
