Aaron Blabey Biography/Wiki
BIOGRAPHY:
Aaron’s early years were spent in another artistic realm – performing – before he embarked on his author/illustrator career. Grape-picking, modeling, working in video stores, writing advertising copy and comic strips, becoming a designer, writing screenplays, and being a college lecturer are some of the other occupations that he has tried his hand at. Aside from his roles as a grape picker, model, and video store clerk, Aaron has appeared in a number of television shows, movies, and plays with actors such as Hugh Jackman, Guy Pearce, Jack Weaver, Bryan Brown, Ben Mendelson, and Joel Edgerton during the 1990s and 2000s.
Aaron has also appeared in a number of stage productions. AFI Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for Television Drama, The Damnation of Harvey McHugh, was given to Aaron in 1994 during his 15-year acting career. Aaron has appeared in over 100 films and television shows. In 2000, he was nominated for an Emmy for his appearance as a guest star in the Australian police drama Stingers. Aaron, on the other hand, didn’t feel like he belonged and began to examine life’s most important question – “What am I here for?” “What exactly is my goal? What exactly am I?” Blabey began painting in the early 2000s. He is a self-taught artist.
He had six solo exhibitions in Australia between 2004 and 2006, where his work was on show all throughout the country. By 2005-2006, he had decided to leave acting and pursue his new creative direction. Pearl Barley and Charlie Parsley, the very first book Aaron ever wrote, was scrawled on toilet paper and now hangs proudly in his home. He began writing the story on his plane boarding card as soon as he boarded the plane. Throughout the day, the plot progressed. The problem was that the people with whom he was staying were fast asleep, and Aaron had run out of boarding card blanks to write on.
Not being able to find anything to use, Aaron went into the guest bathroom and took advantage of the plentiful supply of paper available – toilet paper. Exactly as Aaron had imagined them, Pearl Barley and Charlie Parsley were born and printed in the same year.
The success of Aaron’s first picture book, Pearl Barley and Charlie Parsley (Penguin Books Australia), prompted him to create his second picture book, Sunday Chutney (Penguin Books Australia), which was published in 2008, and his third picture book, Stanley Paste (Penguin Books Australia), which was published in 2009. Penguin Books Australia published The Ghost of Miss Annabel Spoon in 2011, which was followed by The Dreadful Fluff (Penguin Books Australia) in 2012, Noah Dreary (Penguin Books Australia) in 2013, and The Brothers Quibble (Penguin Books Australia) in 2014.
The Brothers Quibble was published by Penguin Books Australia in 2014. Pig the Pug was released in 2014, followed by further titles in the Pig series, including Pig the Fibber in 2015, Pig the Winner in 2016, and Pig the Elf, which was released just in time for Christmas this year by Scholastic Australia. The first episode of the Bad Guys series (Episode 1) was released by Scholastic in July 2015, and the second episode – Mission Unpluckable – was released in November of the same year.
Episode 3 – The Furball Strikes Back was released in May 2016, followed by Episode 4 – Apocalypse Meow, which was released just a few weeks ago. The picture book for grownups Babies Don’t Suck (Pan Macmillan) was published in 2014 and is written by Aaron. A new album under the name Doesn’t Call Me Bear was published in 2016. Aaron currently resides in the Blue Mountains of Australia with his family, where he focuses his time on writing, drawing, and advocating for children and young people in need.
