Charlotte, North Carolina-based Carolina Panthers are an American football team that represents the state of North Carolina and competes in the National Football League. It is a member club of the National Football League (NFLNationalFootball )’s Conference (NFC) South division and competes in the National Football League (NFLNational) (NFL). Bank of America Stadium, the team’s home field, and headquarters is located in Uptown Charlotte and serves as a practice facility as well as a venue for exhibition games.

In spite of the fact that the Panthers have played their home games in Charlotte since 1996, they spent their first season playing their home games at Memorial Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina, where they received a large amount of support from the local community. The team’s annual training camp is conducted at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, which is home to the Spartanburg Hornets. As one of just two clubs in the NFL to represent several states, the Minnesota Vikings join the New England Patriots as the only other team to do so.

The Panthers, who were originally designated as the league’s 29th club in 1993, began to play in 1995 under the ownership of Jerry Richardson, the team’s founder, and original owner, and have been in the league ever since. After a 7–9 start in 1995 (the best start ever for an NFL expansion team’s first season), they improved to 12–4 the next season. During their first season, they won the NFC Championship Game and progressed to the Super Bowl, where they were defeated by the New England Patriots by a score of 32–29.

It would be another two years before they had another successful season. Since appearing in the postseason twice previously, in 2005 and 2008, the team hasn’t appeared in the postseason again, and that was in 2013 when they won the first of three consecutive NFC South championships.

As a result of losses in the divisional round to the San Francisco 49ers in 2013 and the Seattle Seahawks in 2014, the Carolina Panthers advanced to their third consecutive Super Bowl appearance in 2015, when they were defeated by the Denver Broncos. During that time period, the team has just once advanced to the postseason, in the 2017 season. With five NFC South titles since the division’s creation in 2002, the squad is only the second team in league history after the New Orleans Saints in terms of titles won.

It is anticipated that the Carolina Panthers will remain the newest member of the National Football Conference until 2021. David Tepper owns a majority stake in Panther Football, LLC, the official name of the franchise, which was approved by league owners on May 22, 2018, following Tepper’s purchase of the team from founder Jerry Richardson. Panther Football, LLC is a limited liability business that specializes in football.

According to Forbes, the club is worth approximately US$2.3 billion on the open market. The Carolina Panthers are a professional gridiron football team based in Charlotte, North Carolina, that competes in the National Football League. They are owned by the Carolina Panthers Foundation. It is located in the National Football Conference (NFC) of the National Football League (NFL), and the Carolina Panthers have won two conference championships during the course of their history (2003 and 2015).

When they joined the Jacksonville Jaguars in 1995, they became the NFL’s first expansion team in 1976, and they played their first game in 1995. They were the first expansion team to join the league in over a decade. The outcome was that the Panthers were the most successful expansion franchise in the history of the league, winning seven out of its sixteen games in their inaugural season.

With a winning record of 12 games, the club qualified for the postseason and progressed to the NFC championship game, where it was defeated by the Green Bay Packers, who went on to win the Super Bowl the following season. Panthers were unable to build on their strong start, as they went on to lose five of their next six seasons, including a terrible one-win season in 2001 that resulted in the hiring of new team management and new head coach John Fox. Despite their strong start, the Panthers went on to lose five of their next six seasons.

Carolina’s new administration engaged in a series of player acquisitions that enabled the team to quickly rebuild and re-establish itself as a viable contender in the Eastern Conference. They drafted wide receiver Steve Smith and defensive tackle Kris Jenkins in the first round of the 2001 NFL Draft, and they selected defensive end Julius Peppers with the second overall pick in the 2002 draught to complete their roster.

Prior to the 2003 season, the Panthers added quarterback Jake Delhomme, and the team’s retooled core guided the team achieving an 11–5 record and a division championship the following season. The Carolina Panthers qualified for the Super Bowl in only their second post-season appearance as a result of their victories over the Dallas Cowboys, St. Louis Rams, and Philadelphia Eagles (the latter two of whom they defeated on the road). After a close contest that was decided by a field goal by the New England Patriots in the last seconds of the game, the Carolina Panthers lost to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LIII.

While not as successful as some other teams throughout this decade, Carolina was one of the most consistent in the league, earning trips to the postseason in each of the previous two seasons. When the Panthers finished with a 2–14 record in 2010, Fox was fired as their head coach. The team’s disastrous season did, however, have one extremely positive outcome: as a result of finishing with the worst record in the league, the Panthers were awarded the first overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, which they used to select North Carolina State quarterback Cam Newton, who went on to win the Heisman Trophy.

The Panthers won the division title and progressed to the postseason in Newton’s first season as head coach, following a streak of dismal seasons prior to his appointment. In the following season, Carolina finished with a 7–8–1 record to win the NFC South division, a division that had been notoriously weak in previous seasons. Amid all of that, they managed to win their first-round playoff game before being eliminated in the second round of the playoffs. The next season, the Panthers compiled one of the best regular-season records in NFL history (15–1) on their way to capturing their second conference championship in the team’s history and winning the Super Bowl.

The Panthers’ season, on the other hand, came to an end in heartbreak as they were defeated by the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50. Despite winning six games in their first season back after winning the Super Bowl, the Panthers finished with the worst record in their division the following season, suffering from a “Super Bowl hangover.” The Panthers had a strong season in 2017, winning 11 games to qualify for the playoffs, however, they were eliminated in the first round by the Philadelphia Eagles. While the Panthers improved to 7–9 during the 2018 season, the reversal was only temporary.
