The late 1990s were a period in which Master P established himself as a hip-hop mogul while remaining mostly unknown to the general public and the news media. No Limit Records, where he served as the company’s chief executive officer, was home to a collection of prolific artists who contributed to altering rap music with inventive production and lyrics drawn straight from real-life experiences on some of America’s toughest streets.

When he started out as an independent artist in the early ’90s and rose to widespread popularity by the end of the decade, Master P was more than simply the leader of a record label; he was also a rapper who was actively writing songs during his meteoric ascent to fame in the music industry. While continuing to release new albums such as Louisiana Hot Sauce (2016) and the mixtape No Limit Chronicles: The Lost Tape (2020), he dabbled in a range of other activities, ranging from acting and writing to participation in professional wrestling.

When Master P’s parents named him Percy Miller when he was born in New Orleans in 1974, they were honoring their son’s ancestors. Following his parents’ divorce, he split his time between his grandmother’s home in New Orleans and his mother’s home in Richmond, California, where he was born and raised. He has two younger sisters who are his closest friends.

Even though he spent the majority of his adolescence on the periphery of drug and hustler cultures, he managed to keep his interest in basketball alive by participating in as many tournaments as he could. His name had been put forward for a sports scholarship at the University of Houston; nevertheless, he chose to drop out and relocate to Richmond, where he enrolled at Oakland’s Merritt Junior College to pursue a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

A bequest of $10,000 from his grandfather upon his death in the late 1980s enabled him to create No Limit Records with the use of that money. When No Limit first opened its doors, it was more of a physical store than it was a label. You Have a Chance to Get Away With It! The fact that Master P discovered a rap audience while working at No-Limit led him to conclude that major labels were failing to provide the funky, street-level sounds that the audience was seeking.

Following his past success, he made the choice to start his own record label, No Limit Records, back in 1990. It was the next year that he made his recording debut with getting Away Clean, and it was a year later that he scored an underground hit with The Ghettos Are Trying to Kill Me! that he became a household name. The album West Coast Bad Boyz (which featured rappers Rappin’ 4-Tay and E-40 before they became well-known) was published around the same time and remained on the charts for more than half a year before being taken off the charts.

In the end, they were both major underground hits, confirming what Master P had assumed all along: that there was an audience for unabashed, funky hardcore rap to begin with. It was only a matter of time until No Limit relocated to New Orleans, where he was able to devote his entire attention to the creation of musical works. During the early years of No Limit Records, the group Beats by the Pound (which consisted of Craig B., KLC, and Mo B. Dick) worked on every single record issued by the label, and No Limit had already developed its own production staff at that time. Approximately 10 of them were held annually.

They were all masterminded by Master P and Beats by the Pound and were all executed beautifully by their respective teams of performers. This was accomplished by the appropriation of tunes from current pop singles, which they did on numerous occasions in order to build their own distinct sound. Record covers with the vibrantly colored, frantic appearance of straight-to-video exploitation films were the responsibility of this group of artists and designers. Their work was also incredibly fast, with entire albums being completed in as little as two weeks in certain cases, and they distributed them all over the world.

Master P Biography/WikiBIOGRAPHY:

When that production schedule was completed, Master P’s own albums were scheduled to be released to coincide with the completion of the timetable. The film 99 Ways to Die was released in 1995, and the animated film Ice Cream Man was released a year later, in 1996, to critical acclaim. Because of the efforts of Master P, the No Limit label had already established itself as a mini-empire by the time Ghetto D hit the streets late in the summer of 1997.

Eventually, the track “Make ‘Em Say Uhh!” by Ghetto D, which featured P’s unique groan, would become platinum, assisting the group in achieving platinum status as well. His younger siblings Silkk the Shocker and C-Murder would go on to form the R&B group Tru, which would go on to score a series of Top Ten R&B hit singles with their debut album. Being successful in the music industry provided him with the inspiration to direct I’m Bout It, an autobiographical comedy-drama film largely based on Tru’s breakthrough hit song of the same name.

Having been unable to find a distributor for the film, Master P made the choice to release it on video in the summer of 1997, a project that he totally sponsored with his own funds. MP Da Last Don is a British member of the House of Commons who represents the country’s interests. His next film, I Got the Hook-Up, was released in theatres during the summer of 1998, which coincided with the release of his album MP da Last Don, which was also released in theatres at the same time.

Master P’s recording of Only God Can Judge Me took place in 1999, during a period of transition between his attempts to break into the NBA’s Toronto Raptors, his involvement with pro wrestling, and his negotiations with the NFL on behalf of Heisman Trophy winner Rick Williams, along with his attempts to break into the music industry. It is included in the fee to have Ghetto Postage as well as Game Face.

After the release of the double-CD Good Side, Bad Side in 2004, P and No Limit began working with Koch Records, a label/distribution company based in New York City. This marked the beginning of their new partnership with Koch Records. After Ghetto Bill, Living Legend: Certified D-Boy followed a year later, and the latter followed another year after the former. master p compiled a list of some of the rapper’s cooperation endeavors, which were included in a 2007 album that also included other artists.

As a result, P continued to release new songs on a regular basis throughout much of the 2000s and into the 2010s, while also engaging in a variety of business and entertainment endeavors of his own. A number of businesses, ranging from a travel agency to a toy manufacturing company, have benefited from his investments. He co-starred with his son Romeo Miller in the sitcom Romeo! for several years and has made investments in several others. Several albums, like 2005’s Ghetto Bill and 2013’s The Gift, make it evident that the band’s creative production has diminished over the course of several years.

It was televised on the BET network in a multi-part documentary series that chronicled Master P’s rise to fame at the beginning of the twenty-first century, and it was the subject of No Limit Chronicles, which premiered at the start of this century. The No Limit Chronicles: The Lost Tape, a new mixtape by Master P that was released in conjunction with the debut of the series and includes new songs from the artist, was released in conjunction with the premiere of the series.
