Patricia Anne Stratigeas, better known by her ring name Trish Stratus, is a retired professional wrestler from Canada who has also worked as a fitness model, fitness instructor, actress, and television personality in the past. She is largely regarded as the best female sports entertainer of all time, as well as a pathfinder for the advancement of women in sports more broadly. Stratigeas began her modeling career as a fitness model, and she has appeared on the covers of a number of publications.

After being a wrestling fan since childhood, she was thrilled when the World Wrestling Federation (now known as WWE) approached her about working for them. She made her television debut in 2000, at the height of the Attitude Era, after signing a multi-year contract with the promotion. Over the course of her professional wrestling career, she showed that she was equally talented both inside the ring and on the microphone, excelling at both heel and face roles with equal amounts of charisma and skill.

She won the WWF/E Women’s Championship seven times, as well as the Woman of the Year award from Pro Wrestling Illustrated magazine four times and the Woman of the Decade award once. Since her retirement from professional wrestling in 2006, she has made intermittent appearances in WWE events and owns and operates a yoga class in the suburbs of Toronto. In 2013, Stratus was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame for his contributions to the company.

On December 18, 1975, Patricia Anne Stratigeas was born to Alice and John Stratigeas in the Canadian town of Flemingdon Park. She grew up in Richmond Hill with her sister Christie and mother Alice Stratigeas. A real estate agent of Greek heritage, her father, and a teacher of Polish descent were her parents’ occupations when she was growing up. On March 16, 2015, Stratus lost her father to death. She went to Bayview Secondary School and afterward attended York University, where she pursued a degree in biology and kinesiology, among other things.

She also participated in the university’s different sports programs, including soccer and field hockey, which she found to be particularly enjoyable. She had intended to enroll in a medical school, but her plans were derailed when a strike by professors forced her to cease her studies. She found work as a receptionist at a nearby gym, where she met the publisher of MuscleMag International and was offered to participate in a test shoot for the magazine.

She declined the offer. This eventually resulted in her signing a two-year contract with the magazine and appearing on the cover of the May 1998 issue of the publication. Strategies would go on to have a thriving modeling career for the next few years after that. She grew up watching professional wrestling and idolizing wrestlers such as Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage, among other stars.

While working as a fitness model, she obtained a job as co-host of Live Audio Wrestling on Toronto Sports Radio, The FAN 590, with Big Daddy Donnie and Jeff Marek, which she continues to do today. Trish Stratus married Ron Fisico, a professional bodybuilder and gym trainer, on September 30, 2006, in a private wedding in Toronto, Canada, where they had met in high school.

Because of her in-ring ability and confidence on the microphone, Stratus established herself as a prominent figure in the wrestling industry throughout the period in which she was actively competing. She, along with Lita and Chyna (Joan Marie Laurer), was instrumental in redefining the role of women in wrestling. She is widely regarded as the finest female wrestler in the history of the company, and she has been cited as an inspiration for a number of female wrestlers who have followed her, including Bayley, Kelly Kelly, Natalya, Rosa Mendes, and Alexa Bliss.

She is also heavily interested in the field of social work. Some of the charities with which she has been involved include Ronald McDonald House, Dreams Take Flight and the Special Olympics. In 2001, she was appointed as the spokeswoman for the World Natural Sports Association. Stratus enjoys collecting shot glasses from each city or town she goes to, which she does as a hobby.

Stratigeas acquired a contract with the World Wrestling Federation in November 1999 and made her professional wrestling debut on the March 19, 2000, show of Sunday Night Heat as the heel Trish Stratus. During her early professional years, she worked as a storyline manager, first for Test and Albert, members of the tag team T & A, and then for Val Venis, a member of the T & A.

Early in her career, she collaborated with WWF Chairman Vince McMahon and the rest of the McMahon family, which ultimately led to her WrestleMania X-Seven appearance, where she supported Shane McMahon in his bout against his father, signaling the beginning of her heel turn in the WWE.

While she had previously participated in matches, following her initial face turn, she began to do so with a greater sense of purpose, thus reviving her character. When she had an ankle injury in the summer of 2001, she was forced to take a three-month vacation from the sport to heal and recover.

Trish Stratus Biography/Wiki

BIOGRAPHY:

When she returned, she was more than certain that she had made the right decision in pursuing a career as a professional wrestler. At the 2001 Survivor Series, she won her first WWF Women’s Championship after defeating her opponent in a six-pack challenge. A memorable scripted rivalry involving her and Lita (Amy Dumas) occurred between 2003 and 2005, and it is considered to be among the most memorable in the history of professional wrestling. The championship, as well as the roles of face and heel, were switched back and forth between them.

Additionally, she had huge feuds with Stephanie McMahon, Jazz, Victoria, Gail Kim, Molly Holly, and Mickie James during her professional wrestling career. Stratus announced in mid-2006 that she will be retiring when the Unforgiven pay-per-view event in 2007 took place. On September 11, she faced off against James in her final match on WWE Raw.

After a week, on September 17, at ‘Unforgiven,’ Stratus wrestled Lita in front of her hometown Toronto crowd, and defeated her by applying the Sharpshooter, a submission maneuver developed by fellow Canadian wrestler Bret “The Hitman” Hart, earning the championship from her greatest rival and friend for the final time in her career. On December 10, 2007, during Raw’s 15th Anniversary special, she teamed up with Lita to assault Jillian Hall, marking her first public appearance since her retirement.

She also teamed up with John Cena in December 2008 for her first professional wrestling match in two years, which she won against Santino Marella and Beth Phoenix in a double elimination match. Stratus worked as a trainer on WWE Tough Enough season five, when he was one of the competitors. It was in August 2016 that she made her first appearance on a WWE Network special entitled WWE 24: Women’s Evolution, where she discussed her time in the WWE as well as the history of female professional wrestling.

She has provided the voice for her character in 20 video games based on the WWE. Her first appearance in a video game was in ‘WWF SmackDown! 2: Know Your Role,’ which was released in November 2000. Stratus made her feature film debut in the 2011 film ‘Bail Enforcers,’ in which she played Jules, a bounty hunter, as the female lead. In 2015, she co-starred alongside Dominic Purcell and Danny Glover in the action film ‘Gridlocked,’ which was directed by Dominic Purcell.

Stratus’ personal favorite match is her WrestleMania 22 match versus Mickie James, which she describes as “a terrific plot and a well-scripted bout.” For the preceding six months, she and James had been building up to this moment, and it all culminated in a spectacular display of skill and abilities from two wrestlers at the peak of their games. With her loss of the bout and the Women’s Championship to James, Stratus effectively handed the symbolic torch to James in true professional wrestling form.

Trish Stratus is a seven-time World Wrestling Federation/Equalizer Champion (November 18, 2001; May 13, 2002; September 22, 2002; March 30, 2003; June 13, 2004; January 9, 2005; and September 17, 2006).  She was the WWF/E Babe of the Year from 2001 through 2003, and she has received numerous more awards. In addition, she was voted the WWE Diva of the Decade of the 2000s. Induction into the WWE Hall of Fame was performed by Stephanie McMahon (Class of 2013). Lita was honored in the Hall of Fame by Stratus in return (Class of 2014).
