Jalen Hurts is a University of Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback who led the team to the 2016 National Championship in his rookie year, but fell short to Clemson in the championship game. After two years at Kilgore Junior College, Hurts’ brother, Averion Hurts Jr., was named the team’s starting quarterback at Texas Southern University in 2016. Jalen stated in a Q&A with rolltide.com that his brother was someone in football who he looked up to.
In 2016, Averion threw for 1,857 yards and 12 touchdowns, while his brother Jalen threw for over 900 yards and earned numerous SEC honors. Hurts’ first pitch at an Alabama baseball game didn’t exactly wow baseball scouts, but he wasn’t as bad as 50 Cent or Carly Rae Jepsen. While Hurts has a strong arm for a quarterback, don’t expect him to follow in the footsteps of his parents, Foo and Averion Hurts, who raised him in Houston, Texas. Averion, his older brother, and Kynnedy, his younger sister, are his siblings.
His younger brother, Averion, was a quarterback at Texas Southern University. Hurts attended Channelview High School, which is located near the Gulf of Mexico east of Houston. Hurts, who was coached by his father in high school, was a prolific passer, earning MVP honors in district 21-6A his junior year. After defeating Blake Barnett in the quarterback duel at Alabama, Hurts left no doubt about who the best man to lead the Crimson Tide offense was. Hurts was named SEC Offensive Player of the Year and SEC Freshman of the Year after leading Alabama to the College Football Playoff by throwing for 2,780 yards, 23 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. Hurts finished 13-31 for 131 yards and a touchdown in Alabama’s national championship loss to Clemson. Alabama quarterbacks Jalen Hurts (left) and Tua Tagovailoa (right) pose for a photo on Saturday,

Tua Tagovailoa, a true freshman, took over as Hurts’ quarterback after throwing for only 21 yards and being held scoreless, and the rest is history.
Jalen Hurts Biography/Wiki
BIOGRAPHY:
Tagovailoa delivered a memorable second-half performance to lead Alabama to an overtime victory and their sixth national championship under head coach Nick Saban. At the start of the 2018 season, Tagovailoa was named the tide’s starting quarterback, and the team advanced to the national championship game, only to be defeated 44-16 by Clemson. After Tagovailoa clearly established himself as Alabama’s quarterback in 2018, Hurts decided to find a new home for his final year of eligibility.
Hurts made the switch from Alabama’s crimson to Oklahoma’s crimson and cream on Jan. 16, announcing his decision in an essay published in The Players’ Tribune. Despite the fact that Oklahoma already had veteran Austin Kendall on the roster, Hurts’ arrival was met with the expectation that he would replace Kendall as the Sooners’ starting quarterback in 2019, and as a result, Kendall transferred to Big-12 rival West Virginia.
Hurts understandably has a lot to live up to after Oklahoma’s previous two quarterbacks. Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray won the Heisman Trophy in 2017 and 2018, respectively, leaving Hurts to complete the Heisman Trophy trifecta. Hurts, along with Tagovailoa, Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, and Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm, were named among the ‘117 players who could win the Heisman Trophy’ by Sports Illustrated.
Despite the fact that Hurts’ job was effectively taken away from him at halftime of the national championship game, one thing remained consistent: his demeanor. Rather than lamenting his lack of playing time, Hurts encouraged and cheered on his teammates as they embarked on a historic comeback. Hurts’ teammates and fans rallied around him all year, and he delivered when they needed him the most. Hurts was forced into action after Tagovailoa suffered an ankle injury in the SEC Championship Game against Georgia.
Instead of Tagovailoa, what did he do? Hurts completed 7-9 passes for 81 yards and a touchdown on the ground and in the air, including a 15-yard scamper with 1:04 remaining to put Alabama ahead. Former teammate Quinnen Williams, who is now with the New York Jets, thanked Hurts for being there to see it through. Hurts decided to give a small gift to some of his teammates in August of 2017, just a few weeks before the season began.
He took his offensive line to Baumhower’s, an Alabama chain restaurant, for dinner and treated them to a feast. After devouring some buffalo wings and fries, former Alabama linebacker Ross Piersbacher told AL.com that he didn’t want to know what the damage was. With the victory over Georgia, Hurts became Alabama’s first black starting quarterback to win a national championship. In addition, he was Alabama’s first true freshman starter since 1984.
“Not only would it be significant for me, but also for future black quarterbacks at Alabama.” It would also represent a significant achievement for black athletes at the University of Alabama since their inception in the late 1960s and early 1970s.” victorious over the University of Georgia His father Averion mentored him throughout his time at Channelview High School. In 2016, he was named SEC Freshmanecond round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
