Anushka Sharma to launch her own clothing line

MUMBAI: Actor Anushka Sharma is building her own fashion line.

The star of Hindi films ‘PK’, ‘Sultan’ and ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ is set to launch a clothing line for women in partnership with Suditi Industries.

“The details on brand and logo will be unveiled by Anushka in September-end and our products will be available in the market from the first week of October,” Pawan Agarwal, chairman of Suditi Industries, said, adding that the equal joint venture with the actor involves an investment of about $10 million over next five years. “We have partnered with national and some regional large format stores and online stores,” he said.

The product line will include denims, jackets, dresses and tees priced between Rs 699 and Rs 3,999, Agarwal said.



Sharma’s spokesperson said, “Being an entrepreneur with her own production house Clean Slate Films, Anushka wanted to extend her entrepreneurial ability to a sphere that is close to her heart. Her foray into the business of fashion by launching her women’s wear brand. She is happy to partner with Suditi Industries, an established fashion house running successful brands.

With this, Sharma joins a list of Indian celebrities who are in the fashionwear business. Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan have ‘Being Human’ and ‘HRX’, respectively, as their clothing brands. Sachin Tendulkar backed celebrity fashion company Universal Sportsbiz (USPL) launched Imara, a contemporary women’s ethnic brand with actor Shraddha Kapoor, and Ms.Taken, a western wear line for women inspired by Kriti Sanon, a new entrant into Bollywood.




Even some Indian cricketers have jumped onto the fashion wear bandwagon — Virat Kohli has ‘Wrogn’ with USPL, Tendulkar has ‘True Blue’ with Arvind Fashion Brands, MS Dhoni has ‘Seven’ by Rhiti Group, while Yuvraj Singh’s ‘YouWe-Can’ is licensed to Suditi Industries.

Suditi Industries, apart from holding distribution rights for YWC, also supplies apparel to FC Barcelona, Manchester City FC and MTV. While Sharma’s products will initially be sold via multi-brand outlets, Agarwal said the company will be looking at the launch of an exclusive brand outlet by summer.
